Don't understand why I'm losing

I'm eating a respectable amount of calories even though I feel like crap. I kept all of them down yesterday. God knows I have plenty of carbs daily. I even ate four or five fries and drank some coke that didn't get logged on there. I feel like my weight should not be falling like it is. I hesitate to make an appointment with my GP because he's truly useless. I can't make one with my surgeon because basically the same and he's 5 hours away.

I usually gain two or three pounds when I take pain medication so I was up to 112. I'm still taking the medication, so to see my weight fall so much so fast alarms me. Yes, I am a worrier, but I haven't seen this low on the scale since last year when my kid was in the hospital and I was hiking a million miles everyday through the hospital back and forth and all around. This just isn't making sense to me. I'm using the same scale and weighing at the same time each day so there are no discrepancies there.

Not only am I in pain, but yesterday I didn't even feel human. I could not drag myself off the couch to save my life. I ate what was brought to me and maybe peed twice all day. I'm turning into a little blob of nothing. This is no way to live.

All I can suggest is to try to build up your calories, but if you can't always keep food down that won't work. Anti-nausea meds so you can eat more?

It's odd how most of us struggle to maintain, but then there are a very few of us who can't stop losing. Different doctor?

It IS weird. I swore to my husband pre-op that he didn't need to worry. "I'll never be too skinny. It just isn't physically possible for me to weigh less than 120." HA! That poor man loves a belly to hold onto when he's sleeping and there is absolutely nothing there. It caves in. My tiny little sleeve betrayed him. I'm thinking I should get a surrogate with a belly to sleep in my spot especially since I'm not even home five nights out of the week. It would be like the greatest gift ever to him. ;-)

I have forced myself up and am out on my porch listening to the birds sing. It is a beautiful morning. Still hurt like hell but no more than I do lying on the couch.

Hi Katrina, I suggest finding a gastroenterology they specialize in the stomach,intestines all problems related in those areas. They deal with unexpected weight loss issues not just the plumbing. You need a full work up. I would add ensure to your diet, its made especially for people like you but you have to see a doctor Katrina. Please look into today and go by some high cal Ensure called Ensure plus!!!!! it worked for my daughter when she wasn't taking in enough cal when she was working out and she became underweight so she drank one between meals. 1-2 a day. laying down to long/much makes back pain worse. I hope you can get some care and get feeling better. If you try my suggestion I think it will help you feel better. Not the pain issue though. Have you looked into seeing a Neurosurgeon? Ps If you stay underweight too long you can develop some serious medical issues including heart problems!!!! please take care of your self and get some medial attention and ensure or boost

Have you talked to any bodybuilders? They make protein shakes to bulk up. When I started doing my research for homemade protein shakes that's what I was coming a cross.

Could it be your thyroid???

I'm in luck on the Ensure plus. I've got boatloads of it on hand. When my daughter was underweight (yay! She's finally safely in a healthy weight range!) we had her downing that stuff three times a day. I have several cases of it left. Now if I can just force myself to drink it. Yuck! I still drink my protein shakes daily. I'm addicted to them. The muscle monster energy protein ones are the only ones I ever found that I like, and I LOVE them.

I know my terrible habit of lying on the couch is awful for me, but any other position is so painful. I've always said that I feel like my head is too heavy for my neck to hold up. Now my doctor understands why I feel this way. However, when I sit up with my shoulders back in the proper position, they feel much better, but my neck hurts worse.

I'm in worse shape than usual this week in particular because I made the trip to Memphis to watch my Tar Heels whip Kentucky in the Elite 8. I knew this would happen, but WORTH IT! Being in the car is always the worst.

I'm sucking it up today. I actually got up and bathed, sort of put on clothes (does a nightgown that I'm pretending is a dress count?), and I'm planning to go to my PT office to get traction set up. Luckily, it's only diagonally across the street. I can do this!

Pain does funny things to the body in your case it may be causing you to burn through my calories.

That's great news on Ensure Plus. That will help stop your loosing hopefully. I would get your thyroid check too. I had hyperthyroidism and during that time I was underweight despite eating plenty of calories.
I wasn't lecturing about the couch. I understand not being able to leave because the pain is too bad. I don't think your being a whimp either, you have some significant damage to you body. I'm so sorry your hurting and miserable and unable to enjoy your weightloss. I hope you think about the specialist I mentioned. My ideas come from years of personal experience. Definitely force yourself to drink the ensure. You don't want to get sick. And I agree with having your thyroid looked at. It has to be something. Good luck.
