    Default Eve of Surgery

T minus 11 hours! Feeling good, not too nervous! Excited to get healthy and make a change! Only concerned about possible nausea and drinking water slowly. I dread giving up chugging a cold bottle of water! Can we ever go back to downing a bottle of water after a workout? Also, how common is it to throw up following the sleeve (coming from someone who has not thrown up in a long time and HATES IT)? I'm sure nausea will be a struggle; I just do not want to vomit.

Thanks for the support on here! Good luck to everyone on their journey!

Have positive thoughts, many people don't suffer any side effect post-op. Just rest, walk, sip and you will do great!

Drinking at first is only little by little but after a few months it will get better. Nothing is definitive, it will increase gradually. It was easier to drink juice mixed with water at first (surgeon's order) then herbal tea. Plain water was a no no. Also trying several temperatures will help. Warm chicken broth or iced cold drinks went down easier.

Good luck for your surgery! Take care!

Good luck Lex, Praying everything goes well today, Its common right after surgery to have nausea or vomiting. Some I think from Anesthesia and the other because of the blood left in your stomach from surgery. My was later. The nurses to there very best to prevent and stop quickly. I've read from people who are years out they can drink normal. I'm 2mos out and things have improved in how food goes down but I still have to go slow or I feel lightheaded for a few seconds.
I really liked Popsicles when started on clear liquids which was the nexted day after surgery for me. I also sipped Apple juice and I liked ice water too. Some People prefered warm. cold worked better for me.
The first week hardest then second gets a lot better. Remember walking is your best tool for pain relief. Good Luck and we are here if you have any questions also your doctor is a good asset too. Please let us know how your doing

Best of luck today. you will be fine. Nausea affects everyone differently. I have yet to throw up or get dumping syndrome. Not sure if that is good or bad.

Water, it gets better. But you will likely never drink a bottle of water in one motion. You likely wont need to if you hydrate properly anyways.

Best of wishes! Just let your surgical team know what are your major concerns and ask how will they assist in event you have adverse reaction to anesthesia.

I have been talking to health advisors and exercise gurus and to be honest I have learned that chugging water is not conductive to our overall health and wellbeing.

I have been told that to get the hydration needed essential to body function we should sip water, maybe not in the tiny sips we need to do initially post op, but t slow enough for water to sit and be absorbed. Chugging will just make water flush through urine. It's just information to consider, and take any advice with a grain of salt. Do what works for you and your personal goals.

Personally, I had a few incidents of nausea the first 48 hours but that was taking the liquid form of pain killers which I really did not need. I threw up once, about three months post op and that was for not following the no water during meals rule. I was already full and drank wayer and it felt like Gastric dumping which made me go both ways. It was a learning lesson.

Best of Luck, Lex, on your surgery! It will be over before you know it. I had fears of nausea and vomiting the last few months preparing for surgery, and I did get it. I kept thinking HOW does one vomit with a new tiny stomach? I did find out unfortunately, and it stopped after a couple days. I am just tired now, I think it's still the anesthesia fog in me. (I had surgery 5 days ago). I've been sipping water, and walking best I can. hang in there, it will get better!

Hope it all went well. I was dry heaving immediately after surgery but I have issues with coming out of anesthesia. I knew that it would be a little of an issue. Other than that, I have had no issues with throwing up. Nausea can happen if you eat too fast or too much and is common the first week or so. I have only seen some people complain about vomiting but it can happen.

Thank you all for your support! I came home yesterday. Not recovering as fast as I thought I would, but making progress. I still get nauseas when I drink, eat, and especially when I have to take all the pills (not getting sick though). The left portion of my stomach where most of the surgery was done is still really sore. It's tolerable though. The worst is if I have to cough. I'm not really monitoring my protein yet. I'm just listening to my body and taking in what I can when I feel like I need to. My favorite things by far have been apple juice, sugar-free pudding, and sugar-free popsicles!

I know everyone is different, but about how long did it take for your stomach soreness to subside? Also, how long after surgery did you have your first bowel movement? I'm on a stool softener but may mix some miralax with my protein today.

I'm on day 8 and could use a stool softener. I think of all the protein I've drank, the soup, the sf pudding/jello, cream of Wheat I've eaten and no bm (could be why no weight loss in 3 or 4 days). I have problems with my dang pills I have to take. I can't crush them or mix them with applesauce, jello.... it becomes a vomit-fest. I just cut them tiny and sip each one down but it's a 30 minute event each time. I use liquid for multi vitamins, vitamin c, d3, and calcium and it STILL takes that long. (I have to take my rheumatoid arthritis meds or I'll be in trouble, and those 3 pills turn into 8 or 9 pieces!)

My stomach wasn't that sore actually. The soreness was the largest incision where he removed my excess stomach from. It still burns a little, but healed up quickly. I can roll side to side in bed with no pain and it's been like that since about day 3,4.

I hope that gets better soon! I can take all my pills and still be fine. I feel a bit nauseas after, but very tolerable. I'm so sorry to hear you are getting sick. The only part of my stomach that hurts is that one incision as well. But it's a 24/7 constant nagging pain. I can roll out if bed without cringing, but I definitely still feel it all the time. Are you going back to work this week (assuming your job is not physically strenuous)?

I don't work anymore so I'm home for good. If I did still work, I wouldn't be going back yet. I am not there yet.
I think once I get my routine down of the cutting of the pills down pat, things will get better.
