    Default Any teachers?

I am an elementary school teacher (3rd, 4th, and 5th-resource specialist) and I was wondering how it has been for fellow teachers. Has it been hard to eat and drink properly during the day since your sleeve surgery? My surgery is not until 6/14 and today I tried practicing sipping throughout the day and it didn't work out so well. It was hard concentrating on teaching and sipping on water throughout lessons. Am I going to be sipping for the rest of my life? lol Please any teachers...help me out and share your experiences!
    Thanks

I am not a teacher (I used to be though) but I have a job that I am constantly talking on the phone. I make sure that I sip as frequently as possible. I always keep a drink with a straw near me. I drink more with a straw. My surgeon allows straws but I know some surgeons don't allow it.

The sipping part is only for a few months. After month 6 or 7 I was able to drink almost as before surgery. However it will be important post-op to think about your hydration a lot because you won't really feel thirsty for a while, even if you are dehydrated. Like Christie I was using a straw (my surgeon allow those too) and it was helpful. Drinking "substance" (herbal tea for ex) and iced cold is still really important even today.

One of our frequent posters (sraebear) is a schoolteacher.

I have been sleeved for two years. This may sound terrible, but I never sipped throughout the day because I do not like having to urinate every 20 minutes. I also do not like water that much.

Bariatric programs encourage sipping throughout the day to cover their behinds. They do not want you to become dehydrated, so they must document that they instruct their patients to sip all day.

Yep, I'm a teacher, and while you won't be sipping forever, you will be drinking your water. So my only problem is needing to use the restroom during class time. (Leaving children unattended is frowned upon.) I teach middle school special ed, with 75 minute class periods. I solved my "need to pee all the time" problem by taking the kids on a "brain break" walk in the middle of class to use the restroom, get a drink, and walk a lap around the hallway. But I only have about 5 kids at a time, not sure what you'd do with a big class.

I also had to find a water bottle that didn't "sweat" all over my desk during the day and get everything wet. It's no problem drinking because our students can have water bottles in class too if they want.

I keep snacks in my closet, typically nuts or protein bars, so If I'm hungry and it's a long time until lunch, I grab something. I let my kids have a snack if they want too, as they don't eat until 1 pm. They get hungry too.

Best of luck to you! Now for entertainment my students like looking at old yearbooks seeing me fat, and saying, "Mrs. B, that is NOT YOU!"
