3rd day out of Sleeve Surgery

Hi Everyone,
This is my second full day home and feeling much better. Yesterday I had pressure pain when ever I sipped anything. I walked as soon as I could after surgery and I still am as often as I can. It's been rainy out so I have just been walking through my house after I have my protein shake and that helps so much. When I woke up this morning I felt a lot better and have very little pain pressure after each sip of my protein shakes but none after I sip my water. Wednesday I can start having puréed chunky chicken soup, light yogurt without fruit and sf pudding. I'm hoping that I will continue to have good luck with those.
The only time I have taken any pain meds after I got home is at bedtime so I can get a good night sleep. I feel so grateful for no nausea so far. So far no regrets on getting this done.

Hi Kim, glad your doing well. Dr Doctor isn't stricked on his post-op diet, I was on clear liquids for 7 days then full liquids with 1 protein shake throughout the day. 3rd week add cream soup, 4th week soft/purée food, 5th week chucky food. The reason I share this is because when I started on soft Puree food I add trouble tolerating it. My stomach felt tight and it was uncomfortable so I went back to full liquids and cream soup with nonfat milk for couple days then eased back slowly. Hope you continue to do well. Make sure your not using a straw because it puts air in your stomach. Take care, Tamera

Thanks Tamera for the heads up on starting the puréed soup, pudding and yogurt. I had already decided to go back to my protein shakes and liquids if it bothers me too much when I try these 3 foods. Part of me is excited about getting to try some food and the other part is afraid. My surgeon pretty much lets the nutritionist guide us on the pre-diet and post-diet as far as I can tell. I have always been a straw person but have totally given it up. I'm looking at the new changes that I have to make as part of my new relationship with food. It's great having this forum to help me through this journey.

You're doing great! I'm 3 days out too, and am having real issues with liquids. My post op diet is that dang ISOPURE zero carb drink for the first week, and water, with broth. I can't even get a half cup of water in.

Here is my suggestion to both you and Lori for liquid intake its what I did for my first week. I used a shot glass slowly sipping water out of it my goal was to drink the entire shot in 15 minutes. If you can do that then you will be drinking roughly 8ounces per hour which is the most fluid you should be intaking per hour after surgery, remember your stomach is swollen from surgery so things dont go down very well.
