Surgery is over... I'm home!

Hey guys, quick note. Surgery was yesterday, had a hiatal hernia which was repaired and everything went smooth. But I've been dry heaving and wretching something fierce. My fear all along was anesthesia and it played out like I thought. I didn't have any pain meds at all, didn't need them, but was given regular injections for nausea. I had my upper GI again this morning, no leaks but that REALLY brought on the barfs!! I walked as much as I could there at the hospital-and can do more now that I'm home, and slept an hour and a half this afternoon.
I have NO hunger at all. I'm just sipping water.

Other than the dry heaving, hopefully the rest of your recovery will be as smooth and uneventful as humanly possible. By the way, cheers to a healthier and slimmer life.

Hi Lori, I'm so glad your surgery went well, Great news. I'm so sorry your having problems with nausea and dry heaving. Hope that stops soon. I'm surprised your doctor doesn't wait at least a couple days to check for leaks. Don't be surprised if you develop diarrhea, the contrast you drink can cause that. A few hours after it started and it off and on for several days. I woke up dry heaving after surgery took nurses a couple hours to completely stop. I occasionally have to take meds for nausea. I remember how awful that was. keep up the great work and hope you feel better very soon. Please keep us posted on how your doing and feel us in on your progress. I'm here if you have any questions

Hello Lori! I'm so glad you're home and okay, except for the symptoms you described. I've been thinking of you non stop for two days and wondering how you were. Please check in when you can and let us know how you're getting along. Hopefully the nausea and dry heaves will come to an end soon. All the best, Patti

Hey Lori! This first week is the hardest but hopefully you will recover soon. Hopefully the nausea passes. I was given a anti nausea medication from my doctor. Luckily I only needed it a few times. Fingers crossed for you.

You'll do awesome Lori...sounds like something many of us went thru the first few days. I remember asking "What the hell did I do to myself??" Get through these tough days, sip and sip some more, move as much as possible. Walks in short duration will do wonders for your psyche and well-being. Keep in touch....Al

Oh last night was bad, nausea related. I have anti nausea pills and I took them last night but couldn't keep my nighttime sleeping pill down. BITTER is an understatement. I can't crush them anymore, it's not worth the agony. I also have famotidine (acid reflux) pill I took. I feel burning at the base of my throat... never had this before.
I never had any shoulder pain at all . I was expecting it but so far, nothing. I have burning in a couple of incisions but other than that, I feel like the Budweiser Clydesdale's lined up and took turns kicking me in the stomach. It could be worse and I'm thankful I did as good as I have done.
Each day should get better.

Aside from the nausea it sounds like you are doing really well! I'm glad to know you are safe, sound and 41 pounds lighter already.
