Going for consultation

Monday I am going for my consultation with my surgeon. I am self paying, so I can schedule my surgery as soon as the Doctor lets me. I am so excited to get this done I can hardly stand it. I have waited so long to get here and now I can see the light at the beginning of my journey. I am anxious to get started. So....I have been scouring this site, reading your posts, (Thank you by the way.) trying to pass time.

I will let you guys know how it goes.

Hi. I was also self pay. I still had to do a few things as required from my surgeon's practice. I had to go to a seminar, meet with surgeon a couple times, nutritionist, blood work, ekg, chest xray, and some other things before they would schedule. I think I decided to go for it in November and had surgery january 11. Best of luck to you. It's exciting once you've made the decision to move forward!

Congratulations on making this Life Saving decision. I was the same way, I couldn't get enough info and was so inspired by all the before and after pics. some other good resources are Ask Dr Alvarez and www.obesitycoverage.com. I was self pay and went to Mexico, It took 2 mos to get it scheduled. I had quite abit of stuff to do plus the Surgeon, Cardiologist & Anesthesiologist and to review my medical records and clear me for surgery than when I arrived day before surgery I had a complete physical including EkG, chest x-ray and before I went done they required I have a echocardiogram with my cardiologist. I got final approval the day of surgery. I know someone who went to same surgeon and there was a husband and wife there for surgery and the wife was declined. I made sure to do a physical with my cardiologist and make sure I was stable for surgery. Didn't want to take a trip and be turned away. I know this doesn't apply to you. I guess I shared that because even Cash patients have a wait. Good luck with your journey

I can so sympathize with wanting to get this process started. Once I decided (and it took YEARS) I just couldn't stand the wait. I went through insurance and so spent my last winter and spring looking in store windows saying, "next year". The time came, the surgery happened and I couldn't be happier. I am probably one of the slower losers, but really I don't care at all. The scale keeps going down and I am getting used to the "newer me" Good luck!
