Surgery in Mexico

Recently found out that my insurance won't cover bariatric surgery so I am considering going to Mexico to have it done. I would like to hear some experiences from Dr. Almanza's patients about the hospital, surgery, etc. I'm a little nervous about having the surgery performed outside the U.S. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I would do it again in an instant! The nursing staff was kind, my surgery went great I am down 40 pounds since January 9th. Good Luck!

It really makes me sad and angry that a lot of insurance companies won't cover WLS. I'm so sorry. You'll do great in Mexico. Good luck.

I had mine done in Juarez Mexico. They did a great job and everyone was polite and professional. Basically there was no difference in having surgery in Mexico and surgeries I've had done in the states.

Thanks to everyone for reassuring me. As a matter of fact, I just got off the phone setting my surgery date!! May 9th is the day, I am so looking forward to being healthy again.

Had surgery there almost five years ago (how time flies!). Not a single complication since then. Best decision I ever made. 140 pounds gone.

I'm having my surgery with Dr. Almanza on April 19, so my date is fast approaching! I personally know three people who were sleeved by Dr. Almanza or his partner Dr. Hernandez, and all of them had great experiences with excellent outcomes. I'm still a little nervous, which is quite normal, but I'm confident things will be ok. My friends tell me that the transportation, the hospital and the hotel are all good, and that the care they received was more than adequate. Dr. Almanza has performed more than 16,000 weight loss surgeries, so I feel I'm in experienced hands.

I'm feeling much better after everyone's comments..... after doing some research on this site alone, there are ALOT of people who have been to Dr. Almanza and Dr. Hernandez with no complaints. Hopefully I will make some new friends that are having surgery on the same date. Thanks again for the help.

I'm in the same boat as Bob. Had mine with Almanza almost five years ago. Zero complications and it was the best decision I ever made.

Back then, he didn't have the clinic he has now. His clinic was literally in a strip center that had an Office Depot, a Pittsburgh Paint Store, and a lingerie/sex shop next door.......lol. I can definitely say this. His old clinic was by far the cleanest place I have ever set foot in. They had six or seven little guys that did nothing all day but wipe down every flat surface in the clinic. They would start in the front and work their way to the back and start over again.....24/7.

You'll do fine with Almanza, and in fact, you'll be fine with any of the TJ surgeons you read about on here. All very qualified and accomplished.

Congrats on setting your surgery date! Yes you will be nervous! I was fortunate to have my mother in law go with me, she also went with my sister in law the year before. Some of the staff members remembered her Staff members are all very friendly and helpful Good luck!
