    Default Complications

Has anyone else had complications? How are things different for us? I hear about all this energy I'm supposed to have, but my stomach feels so full and kind of hurts all the time. That makes me not want to do a lot, I keep trying to do stuff, but I get tired and kinda sick pretty fast, especially if I get overheated, sorry I live in Texas, it's going to be 90 degrees today. I had surgery on 1-3-17 and after major complications, I had my stents out for the last time on 3-8-16. I don't have much energy, I have been trying to drink my protein shakes and get in at least 60 mgs in a day. When will I have more energy? I have lost about 48 pounds, starting weight 279 and 5'9", current weight 231. I was in and out of the hospital for almost 2 1/2 months and couldn't eat or drink much the last three weeks and I had no TPN or feeding of any kind. I hope I feel better soon, really tired of all this, I just want some since of normal and I'm tired of feeling sick/full all the time.
    Thanks

Hi Lisa, I'm glad to hear you finally got your stints out. That has to be a good feeling. I imagine it will take time for your body to recover and feel good again. I wonder if some of your tired feeling is from dehydration? or from everything your body's been through. I'd check in with your doctor and see if they could check and see if your getting enough fluids. What about physical therapy to help you get back on your feet after fighting a lfe threatening infection. Hopefully as your body recovers you will start to feel better. Make sure your getting enough fluids because I know if you don't get enough you get tired and after being sick you feel tired until you slowly increase activity. Maybe change up your scenery. Can you swim yet? thats a great way to exercise without over heating. They also make different things you can wear that help keep you cool. I have a vest i wear because I have MS and sensitive to the heat. Does your doctor have any advice? Hope you feel much better soon. Prayers sent for continued healing.

Thanks, I'm going to start swimming again after I'm enrolled back in our local community college, they have a pool and it's close to my house, that will be in May. I would be in college now, but I had to I'm drinking at least one and a half premier protein shakes a day plus a 17.9 oz bottle of water, sometimes more I think. Today is my first full day back at work, I'm happy to be back at work. I'm eating soft foods and pureed foods, but i'm full and sick feeling very quickly. Anyway, thanks again...

Lisa, I hope you begin feeling better soon. You've had one bumpy road and maybe due to all the complications, that is hindering your body's ability to flip on the energy switch right now? Hugs!

My doctor always tells me when I change the type of food im eating ( soft foods instead of shakes ) and my stomach bothers me go back to the last stage and continue that for another week. As you had such long lasting complications maybe your stomach is still at the earliest stage of nurishment. Just throwing it out as a possible solution.

Lisa, I had complications afterwards but nothing like yours. I had a paralyzed colon from a reaction to anesthetia. I got dehydrated and had to be readmitted to pass the problem, no pun intended, and get rehydrated. I took 5 days. I think this helped me early on to not be tempted by foods or feel deprived. Not sure if others feel more tempted than I was but I never felt as if I had to struggle.

Yeah, the more you struggle the more you appreciate I think in a way other can't understand. I'm glad I'm better, I went back to work today, it felt good...

Lisa, You have been through a lot. It will take some time to bounce back. In addition, you are losing weight. That takes energy also. Try to find some more patience, lord knows you have reason to deplete your supply of patience the past few months. ;-) My surgery was in October, and I still find days that I just don't have energy. Just take care of yourself. Get as much rest as you need...... SLEEP when you need it. Keep your foods higher in protein, avoid carbs and maintain your fluids. Your body is readjusting; it takes time. Don't give up hope, you are through the woods... and back on track.
    . Good luck.

Hey Lisa! Glad to hear you are getting a little better. In the early phases protein shakes made me feel sick. I say early phases because you are still in the early phases of drinking/soft foods due to your complications. What helped me was warm things like tea, broth, and creamed soups made with nonfat milk. Are you taking any vitamins/supplements? B12 can help with energy. I take the gummy ones but I know some people take liquid or dissolvable ones. It is going to get easier. Also, premier protein shakes made me feel nauseous. I did better with EAS Advant Edge. They have less protein but are nutritionally sound for WLS patients and were recommended by my nutritionist. It is worth a try. I'm still praying for you hon.
