    Default Pain & full liquids

How long will it be before my stomach doesn't feel sore, kind of raw, and how long before I figure out how much I can eat? Should I eat until I feel full or eat a few bites & stop because I'm afraid of throwing up? At this point I'm not sure I made the right choice...

    Hey Lisa

Sorry to hear that your stomach is still feeling sore and raw. I'm guessing that's due to the procedures you had to fix the leak, etc. Your healing process isn't done yet, I'd GUESS that it may take a few weeks to start feeling better (less sore/raw).

Hang in there. It WILL get better.

Generally for me if I feel full it's too late and I've overeaten. I eat slowly. Take a few bites and wait to see how I feel. Works well for me. Honestly I still don't eat much. I know it varies by person. Maybe track your food to see how you feel. Then you can analyze the data. Hope this works for you and you feel better. Big hugs. PS-Liquids and soft foods are easier than meat. Meats take way less to fill you up.

I did pureed foods than soft. I have to admit even now my comfort food is cottage cheese and non fat greek yogurt. Kind of like my "comfort" foods. Actually I am not enjoying foods anymore....guess that's good for me! A BIG switch!!!

I'm not that far into post op period yet but I find if I stop 3 bites before I think I'm going to be full that usually nails it on the button.

You had two very difficult months post-op so your stomach might need some extra time to heal.
I was vomiting non stop for three days post-op and just that (which compare to your situation is nothing!) made me postpone my soft food schedule for one week.
So I imagine that those stents will probably delay a bit your healing too.
Just take it one day at a time, and try to listen to your body as much as possible. I always made sure to never overeat and measure 1/2 cup for months post op.
But eating bites the size of a peanut, taking your time, not drinking 30 mns before and after a meal will for sure help a little.
If you need to stay on full liquid longer, it's not an issue as long as you can get enough protein (from shakes of mixed in soups). That's what my surgeon said when soft food was not going well.
Think positive, the worst is behind you. Try to picture yourself each day as a lighter version of yourself, pain-free. Having positive thoughts and energy will help the recovery. Take care.

My dietician preop suggested I get a couple of the stage 2 baby food jars and use those as guidelines for anything I eat soft or solid food wise. She said to eat from one full jar if after 5 minutes I am still hungry to eat another. Each jar held about a quarter cup or 4oz roughly. I can eat about a cup of food with no problem, but anything else I will start feeling extremely uncomfortable.

I ate an In and Out Protein Cheeseburger today (bunless burger basically), and as I was finishing it I couldn't believe I was over half way through. At about two or three bites left I had a feeling that I had food stuck in my esophagus. I should have known to pace myself.

just take it slow and don't rush it... u have had a tough couple months... follow the instructions... stay on soft foods... that includes eggs, cottage cheese, and applesauce... tiny bites , tiny amounts... u will not b able to eat very much....just eat a bite at a time and see how u feel.. do not rush it..know that 1 last bite can make all the difference in too much..i wish u good luck and quick healing...
