I think surgery has made me severely lactose intolerant. What's a good protein to use if you are
Nita, you're only 4 days post-op. Your poor little sleeve is more swollen more than it'll ever be. That "tight restriction" you're feeling is nothing more than your tiny, traumatized sleeve trying not to explode right now. And it's either producing too much acid, not enough acid or no acid at the moment. Nothing is normal.
And it's all going to change many times in the next few months as your sleeve heals. If milk products make you uncomfortable, don't take 'em. Or use a gas-X. And take all your prescribed antacids. If your surgeon didn't prescribe one, contact the office and find out which one you're supposed to be taking during the coming months.
One of the recommendations post-op is if something doesn't agree with you, back off. Then in a few days / weeks / months try it again. You'll find several things your sleeve won't like early on, but will tolerate just fine later.
You're doing fine. Just sip, sip, sip your water. Main thing right now is to avoid dehydration.

unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk-no lactose and actually is a better mixer for the protein powders.
I was fine after my surgery but I also developed an issue with milk based protein. It just did not sit well in my stomach. My nutritionist suggested that I go to GNC and they have a few options. I ended up with Dymatize but Isopure is another. After a few weeks though, I think that I am ok with the regular protein drinks. This may just be a phase. There are options. Stay strong.
Hi Nita,
You just got a new stomach and it will take some time to get used to the "new you". Gas side effect will go away usually in 8 or 10 days. Surgery on our stomach also has an influence on our intestine because our stomach does produce several kind of hormones and that play a role on our guts.
Post-op there's many things I couldn't stand and milk was one of them. Isopure and whey protein in general made me really sick.
Just get samples and try it slowly.
Things will get better, for some it will take a few weeks, for others it might be longer, but at the end it's all worth it!
My fav vegan protein powder is "Sunwarrior classic" I took the unflavored version so I make my own shake with PB2 and organic cocoa. No artificial sweeter (can't stand it, it does make me feel sick).
Trying veggies later on I discovered I couldn't eat any cruciferous (broccoli, cauliflower etc) but at 13 months out it's all gone now. So trying one veggie per sitting was my goal for a few weeks.
Good luck and take care

Fair Life milk it has 13g per 8 ounces and is lactose free. The taste is good and if you truly can't handle lactose it's a good alternative.
