Because our smaller stomachs the food we eat has less time to be fully broken down and nutrients absorbed as mentioned above. That's why regular labs 1-4x a year is highly recommended to track any deficiencies, but I don't want to regress. So.
Nutrition starts in our mouths. Why? Chewing produces saliva which is full of much needed enzymes. Enzymes start breaking down food in our mouths, the more we chew the less work our sleeved stomachs have to do and the more nutrients it can extract from the well chewed food.
No water 30 min before/after eating rule is helpful because of the low stomach acid available to breakdown the food we just ate. Drinking water while eating halts or delays the enzymes production caused by chewing only. Without enzymes helping breakdown nutrients our stomach will not be able to absorb life sustaining amino acids from protein and complex carbs and that will be detrimental to our health in the long run. So just know if you sip on water you are just asking for trouble maybe not now, but what will be the caus and affect in 10 - 20 years? I'm almost 49 years old and the reason I chose Sleeve Gastrectomy was so I could live a healthy longer life and enjoy my golden years without being a huge burden ;no pun intended, to my family.
Thanks for posting article btw! and good to hear from you Etsybay!!! If I find the digestive articles I've read I will post to comment later on.
