    Default The same pound

Surgery 1/18. I lost steadily and then had the deaded 3 week stall, got past that no problem thanks to reading so much about it here. I lost another 5 pounds in a few days and then stopped again. I have weighed the same pound for 2 weeks now.

I read here all the time, I have eaten more protein, more calories, more water, everything I can think of. My thoughts are this....Is your weight loss in part based on how much you ate before surgery? The reason I ask is that I read some people were eating 2500-3000 calories before surgery and others were overweight on only 2000.

I also read that post surgery, some maintain on 1800 calories a day and others need to stay at 1000 calories. I have 2 friends who are both a year out and each finds they can't maintain unless they stay under 900 calories.

Anyone have any thoughts or know of any research on this?

    Thank you.

Could you give more information? What are you eating in a day? Any exercise?
I had a stall for about a week, but I was also severely constipated.

    Hi, Sure.

I do about 30 min workout. I am hitting my targets of 60 grams protein, 8-10 glasses of water, and 800 calories. That said... out of frustration I have tried more protein at 80 grams for nearly a week and actually gained 2 pounds. I have tried eating more up tp 1200 calories for two days and nothing.

I am wondering if I need to be eating 700 calories as I became obese at 2000.

The way what you wrote reads is as if you are giving up after just being 6 weeks post op, I honestly hope that is not the case. Based off when your surgery date was you should be still consuming nothing more the soft foods and pureed foods. Items such as eggs, chicken or turkey preferably dark meats, flaky fish such as tuna in water, Cod, tofu and dried beans cooked for proteins. I am one week behind you post op wise while I have not had a stall as of yet I am certainly expecting many of them on my weight loss journey. I am currently consuming around 800 calories with 80 plus grams of protein, also I am still drinking at least one protein shake a day to hit those protein numbers. I am a waterholic and was prior to ever having WLS so for me to do over 100 ounces of water in a day is not uncommon. I am not counting calories just my protein intake for now when I am hungry I eat tends to work out to 3 meals a day plus usually 1 snack. I do not plan on ever counting calories as for me I believe thats the wrong approach. I will eat as healthy as possible something I didn't always do previous and I am and will continue to go to the gym daily something I never did before. Dont quit on yourself don't look at what others are eating that you know who had WLS or who post on the boards. You started your journey for yourself so keep doing it for that person. Yourself!!

I would not even get discouraged. Put the scale away. You really should be paying attention to how your clothes fit. In the beginning I would drive myself crazy and honestly it's not even worth looking at it. Your body is going through soooo many changes that the weight loss will not even show, but believe me it IS coming off. Just have patience. Stick to the basics. My guidelines are under 800 calories for the first 6 months. Unless you are working out and you need those extra carbs to burn energy. Talk to your nutritionist. it helps. Best of luck to you!

Stalls come and go through this process. Stressing about them will not help. Stress definitely takes its toll on your body. Talk to your nutritionist. They will get you on the right track with your food.

Stalls are normal. Try to focus on eating enough protein, and drink enough water too. If you don't drink enough you can't lose the fat. Also at six week post-op I was eating probably 600 calories per day.

1200 calories consisted of a lot of protein and shakes and Soymilk. I was hard to eat that but one thing the nutritionist suggested was to try eating more...I gained and felt awful. But I do see that suggested here sometimes as well so I gave it the old college try so to speak.

I don't count calories because I still can't eat a lot. I just try to focus on water and protein adding some veggies. My hardest goal is the water especially at work.
I had a stall for about 2 weeks and after reading what everyone wrote I didn't worry about it. I just kept doing what I was doing and then one day...BAM! LOL!

    Keep us posted!

1200 calories is what what nutritionist recommended me to eat at 12 months. And even if my BMR is 1600 I'm really slow at losing right now. I was never counting calories everyday but just making sure once in a while, I was mostly watching my protein. Watching your carb intake could help too. I was never low carb like a few sleevers here who go hard core with 30 gr per day, but my nutritionist was recommending around 100g per day and I knew I couldn't follow that or I wouldn't lose anything. I'm very sensitive to carb but I live in Asia and people do better with carbs here. So I tried to stay between 60/80 gr. per day. Also if I do eat organic tofu, for some reason my stomach doesn't like Soy milk. I prefer almond milk better. There's less carbs in it too, well at least in the brand I use.
Don't stress out, our bodies need time to adjust to our new stomach, but you are early in the process so you will loose a lot more, no worries.

Also, it depends on what the calories are coming from.

I'm between 400-600 calories at this point and that includes 2-300 from my protein shake or bar.

Understanding your resting metabolic rate is important. My resting metabolic rate as a male who is 6'1" and weighing 237 is higher than a woman who is 5'5" who weighs 237. One, men have more lean muscle mass as a generality. Two, because my height is more, my weight is spread over a greater surface area which means that I have again a higher lean muscle mass. In other words, my muscles are longer than the example female. So understanding that, lean muscle burns more calories by just existing than does less dense muscle or fat. So for a man to maintain they can eat an example of 2000 calories to maintain weight while a woman the same weigh could only be able to eat 1750 calories to maintain. Everyone is different and needs to have their resting metabolic rate measured professionally.

I suggest looking into whether a local business to you can measure this for you. Here in Maryland we have a company that travels around the area with a mobile "BodPod" that can measure it for you. Try this site to see if you can find a person help you - http://www.cosmedusa.com/en/test-site-locator . I have used http://www.befittest.com/ to measure this in the past.
