    Default Trying to measure progress

Need some help in self assessment. Male, 42 years old. 429 lbs before pre-op diet. 390 at time of surgery on 5/10/16. Now 315 lbs. How am I doing? I'm not stalled... but slowed. Trying to see if I'm in a reasonable place. I did my surgery in Mexico so my aftercare isn't local. For diet I am keeping it under 2000 calories a day, running 3 times per week (5K or more), under 30 net carbs per day. LOTS of protein (70-100 grams or more). Thoughts?

Your protein intake is good but what is your water consumption? I would also suggest seeing if there is any WLS meetings in your area if so go to one, I go once a week to meetings near me. I find them a excellent source to stay motivated and on track.

You doc didn't give you a projection of your weight loss? what to expect?
But anyway, we all loose differently, on our own pace.
What's important is to stay focused on your guidelines, eat enough protein, drink enough water, take your vitamins. The after care with regular blood tests will also be important to show any kind of deficiencies.

I think as long as you are losing, I think you are definitely moving in the right direction. You should definitely talk to your doctor and see what they think. And I agree with Sandra, we all lose at different paces. My only thought is calorie wise, you seem to be on the higher side but you are also heavier than me so I could be wrong.

I did my surgery in Mexico. Not covered by insurance so my local doctor wasn't involved. They technically have aftercare but it's not the best... that's okay. I paid for the surgery itself.

You are right on the calories. I know that you are supposed to stay around 800-1200 calories but I'd rather hit my targets in terms of net carbs, protein, etc. then restrict calories in the extreme.

At the same weight, my nutritionist wants me getting a minimum of 110 g of protein per day. Increasing the good lean proteins could lead to better weight loss by restricting other less effective nutrients.

I usually don't have a problem hitting 100 or more on protein. I dig protein bars (Mission1 is my favorite) and lean meat.

I'm a woman and lighter, I'm supposed to stay at minimum 1200 per day if I want to lose. 800 for you would be unhealthy. My BMR is actually 1600. My BMR was done with a scan so it's supposed to be quit precise. But You can look online and get an idea of yours. Anyway, as far as you lose, you are good.

I'm pretty sure physicians do not give projections of weight loss because they don't want to set us up to fail...nor do they want us to feel bad about ourselves if we do not meet the projection. That being said, my surgeon stated at month eight weigh loss should slow and/or come to an end. I pushed hard during the first eight months to get off as much as possible. He also stated the average loss at month eight is 80lbs, though this is not true for all. You are doing a great job, as long as the scale is decreasing and your clothing is fitting better you are on the right track. Don't compare yourself with others as we all will lose different amounts. Keep doing what you are doing, it is obviously working!
