    Default better food options?

Hi, new to this forum. I had my sleeve done on Dec. 7,2016 and i am constantly worried about how my body will react to foods eaten when not at home. so much so, that I'm reluctant to try new foods that might work out better for me. (Im getting a bit board with the basics) has anyone found a cook book or a place here that recipes are placed? and are there foods that just need to be forbidden from now on? im actually making a list of food that have worked and hasn't worked well. any thoughts or suggestions? HW:245, SW:217, CW: 190
    thank you

What works for one person food wise my bother someone else. I've spoken to alot of people who say they tolerated haddock well at the point I am at but for me haddock did not sit well. I really think for the first six months or so for myself it will be all trial and error.

    Well....here we go.....

Sounds like to me that you are on a diet. You should not be on a diet. At almost three months post op, you should be able to eat anything you want, safely. Does that mean that it will sit well with you? No. Some foods sit well and others don't. It'll be that way for the rest of your life. What's important to remember, and this is just my opinion, is that there are no forbidden foods. That opinion is based on a heaping helping and big ass dose of been there and done that.

You will be sleeved for the rest of your life and it just doesn't make any sense to me that each of us is going to be able to restrict what we eat for the rest of our lives. If we could do that, we would not have needed to be sleeved in the first place.

For me, it made much better sense to learn how to eat normal foods in a way that would not cause me to gain weight. That's the genesis of my plan. I eat what I want, when I want and made just the way I like it. I just never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever overeat......ever.

I know you are new at this and feeling your way along. I think that universally, all vets on this board will tell you that it's your responsibility to find a plan you can live with for the rest of your life and work the hell out of that plan.

Make a plan, work the plan, own your results and change as needed.

In my opinion, the sooner you learn how to live like a sleeved person in a non sleeved world, the happier you will be.

Feel free to reach out to me via pm if you have any questions or need some advice. I would suggest you go to my profile page and read up on all of my posts. Lots of opinion and drivel there.....lol. Also look up Ann2. Completely different perspective than mine but no less relevant.

Look forward to hearing from you when you need help.

    Robert

My clinic told me at 6 months that there were no restrictions, as long as I did protein first and got my liquids in. That said there are foods that bother me, like peppers for example. I can't tolerate them raw or cooked. And I can't stand the taste of tuna anymore.

I had my surgery Jan 6 2017 and I am definitely a newbie The clinic provided me with an eating plan for 75 days. Honestly I quit following it about 3 weeks ago I agree with Tinman, figure out what works for you I've enjoyed a few of my favorite Girl Scout cookies along with some of my other favorite foods and I have continued to loose, maybe not as fast as if I was following the eating plan they gave me but I have been satisfied with my weight loss and what foods I've tried I've learned which foods I need to maybe wait on for now but over all I am happy with everything

    HW - 251
    Pre op diet - 242
    day of surgery -231
    One month - 212. -39 lbs
    Two months - 202. - 10 lbs. to date total 49

Eight months. 180 Total lost to date. 71 pounds

This is the same advice I received at my 1 month post op appointment from both my surgeon and my nutritionist. It was because I was eating the same thing everyday and sometimes twice a day. Since then, Ive changed things up and keep that advice in my head.

You can try anything you want. Start slow and I'd just try one new food at a meal. That way, if it doesn't agree with your stomach you'll know which food to avoid for the time being. Everyone is different. I cannot eat tuna, but can eat other fish. I've tried it several times and it just agree with me, so now I don't eat it. Get your protein, water and exercise in and you'll be fine. Vitamin supplements also vary by person so you'll need blood work to determine what and how much you need of those.

Maybe I am interpreting this post differently but I think that Enna925 is mostly concerned with trying new foods while out because she is afraid of feeling ill, vomiting, or possibly diarrhea?! I don't think she is talking about being on a diet. Just my two cents. And by sitting well, if you are one of the people who vomits or gets diarrhea, I can totally understand that. But yes, make a list of foods that are working now. Those that don't sit well, try them again down the road. Good luck.

There are a ton of sites on the web with Bariatric recipes, just put that in search on the net and you will find a ton. Good luck.
