Newbie here. 56 days till my surgery

Hello everyone,

My name is Amber. I'm from Houston, TX. I'm a married 41 year old with a 22 year old daughter. I'll be having surgery in Mexico in April and I am so excited! My doctor has told me to do a 5 day pre-op diet. So I am starting to purchase the protein shakes and powders now so I can have a bunch of them ready for when the time comes.

Do this right now: Take a full length "before" picture. Do NOT wear "form flattering" colors (black, navy, etc). Wear something tight and white so you can see EXACTLY where you are starting from. Front and side. If you're really daring, take a pic in your undies. This will be all the more dramatic when you achieve your goal weight (and you WILL, no doubt about that!).

Locate a Goodwill Thrift Store near you....you will be buying a LOT of "transitional clothes" there as you slide down the weight scale. You will wear them for 3 to 4 months max, then start over again.

Wish I'd gotten sleeved at age 41!

Congratulations on your new journey. You will find everyone here is full of info and a helping hand. It helps a lot through this process. Also as far as protein powders. Stuff you like today , you might loathe after surgery. Your taste buds DO change. I still love Premier Protein. I get that one down with zero issues. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! I had my sister take my picture on Monday wearing a sports bra and a snug pair of workout pants, front and side - Really ugly!

The good thing about my clothes is they ALL come from Thrift Stores. Everything except my undies and the occasional funny T-shirt I get from 6 dollar tshirts. I just hate paying full price for clothes.

Bob is right on target. Only thing I can add is don't buy your protein shakes to far out in big quantities. Your taste buds will likely change too. I switched from pre-made shakes to self-made because I could control the strength and texture. I switched to unsweetened vanilla almond milk it mixes the powders much better than water or regular milk.

Welcome and congrats! You got a lot of good advice. I take pics every 2 weeks in the same bra and panties. And protein shakes in bulk is a bad idea. And I really did not drink as many of them post op as I thought I would.

My surgery date is going to be close to yours. My surgeon recommended a 2 week liquid diet so I am very envious of your 5 day one. I also recommend Premier Protein which I pick up at Walmart. Good luck on this new adventure!!!
