Default Pre op diet starts tomorrow

    Good evening,

This is my first post on this forum. I am scheduled for a sleeve on March 14th. I start my pre op diet tomorrow. I am so nervous about it, and afraid that I will not be able to handle it. Mine is not as strict as some others. I get 2 protien shakes, 4 oz chicken, egg and cheese, also veggies.

How did you all handle it. Did anyone cheat and still have successful surgery?

Mine was like yours for 6 days and then 3 days of only liquids. Protein shakes, broth, sugar free jello etc. I was fine. Even on the 3 days only liquids. I wasn't hungry but it was definitely mental not being able to eat any solid foods for 3 days.

I had the same exact kind of diet for 2 weeks (but no cheese, only protein/fish/chicken and veggies). Because I lost weight on my own it was only 2 weeks, could had been more with my initial BMI during my first consult.
I never cheated because I was too scared of the consequences, with my big fatty liver that something would happen during surgery. The surgeon need to lift the liver to have access to the stomach so if the liver is still to big it could be damaged, split etc...anyway if the diet is not followed to the T the surgeon can refuse to operate.

My first three days were a little hard because of the carb withdraw but after I was fine. Just drink a lot of water, that will help. Good luck!

Good Morning, my pre-op diet was the same except less days. It really wasn't that hard, I think because i was so excited to be getting closer to leaving for surgery. I had no trouble with the 2 days of clear liquids. My body already had adjusted to the restrictions. I urge you to follow you doctors orders. They serve a very important step. They also reduced the risk of complications and having your surgery cancelled. There have been instantances were a Doctor started the surgery but had to stop and close them up because the liver was to enlarged. You don't want anything to happen so don't cheat and remember eveymore responds differently to meds, surgery ect. Good Luck and I wish you all the best on your weight loss jourey.

My Pre op diet consisted of 4 protein shakes a day and 2 oz of celery or carrots. For 10 days.
