    Default Having Problem

Hi. Im having problem keeping anything down. Anything I drink comes back up. I'm taking little sips as they recommend but my stomach gets bloated and comes back up. And it hurts the to of my chest. Also, I'm taking the spasm pills. Water, Jello sugar free, fat free pudding etc. I can't even keep the protein shakes down. Im never hungry either. Is this normal in the beginning. I'm not hungry at all. Should I be worried or should I contact my doctor.

I was like that in the beginning. This may sound weird but my wife went to the store and got me baby spoons and 2 sippy cups. Really helped. The baby spoons only can hold a tiny bit. IT would take me 20 mine just to eat 3 oz. of jello. Make sure you are not eating and drinking at the same time. Only time I really had stuff rush back up out of me was when I ate and drank too close together.I would not drink until 30 mins after my last bite of "food". Really helped. I am almost 6 months post-op and If I forget and drink after eating I get bad craps and feel like I want to puke. It is all training your brain to the new lifestyle. I had trouble with the protein shake up until my 4 months. I would still call your doctor in the morning. They may want you to come in just to be safe.

And as far as hungry. I will sometime "forget" to eat, I am never really HUNGRY. I set a few calendar entries on my phone to remind me at certain points of the day to eat. AND I ALWAYS HAVE A BOTTLE OF WATER IN MY HAND>

Thanks so much for your help. My chest and stomach feels like it would explode. I will try that and I'm going to call doctors in the morning.

Try drinking things that are warm, like broth. I had an easier time getting things down that were warm. My dr said that was normal.

I would still call your dr to make sure everything is ok. That's what they are there for.

Along with calling your doctor try gasx strips as well. I am 6 days post op and they have helped. Also, how about BM's? I put Miralax in my drinks and once I started being more regular also seemed to help. How about your breathing exercise device? Have you used it? That is helping me too. Good luck, I hope it gets better. I have my moments of cramps and discomfort but it seems to pass relatively quickly.

The full feeling may well be gas, however; if you're concerned it never hurts to call the doctor. Walk, deep breathing, smaller eating utensils, sipping slowly, eating slower, it all might help. It's a challenge in the beginning, but it does pass. Using GasX strips does help a bit.
    I wish you continued success!

Unless you are eating/drinking too fast, this isn't normal. If you can't keep anything down you could easily end up dehydrated and need IV fluids. Call your surgeon.

I had the same problem. I had an Ileus which is when the colon paralyzes after surgery. I caused extreme dehydration requiring me to be re-hospitalized for 5 days. Don't take this lightly. Call the doctor, they will tell you exactly what you need to do. No chances with this. dehydration is very dangerous.

Sorry you're having these issues. I didn't have anything like that going on at 14 days post-op. Heck, not even at 1 week post-op.

I always worry when I hear about these kinds of issues that patients might have a stricture (a twisted sleeve) that's preventing the easy passage of food/liquids from moving smoothly downward.

So don't guess or assume what's happening. Get the appropriate imaging test and find out.

    Best wishes!

He said to go back to liquids for a bit. Stomach can't tolerate the soft food stage. And drink warm broth. Lost another 11 lbs in 1 week.
