    Default Water questions???

Just curious how much water is required to drink after the surgery and why is water so important? Also, how do you get it all in?

I am not a big water drinker at all or much liquids of any kind at that, other than maybe a diet soda once a day. I just don't know how I'm going to get all this water in on a daily basis. Does it have to be all water or do other things count?

Also, I currently take a water pill which I can't stay out of the bathroom now with.......I can't imagine what it will be like after adding even more water in.

I take a water pill as well. The doctor had me stop taking it for a couple of weeks. I now take it everyday, but hope to be off it soon.
You need the water to stay hydrated. You can only take small sips, so you'll take a lot of them to get in a's much as possible.
It can be flavored water, juice, gatorade and eventually other things like milk.
Try to use low cal. Drinks. Of course you will also end up doing protein drinks. I recommend EAS.
    You will get through this.
And look at what you have to gain...a whole new life!

Everyone needs water. Most people spend their life chronically dehydrated. This is hard on your kidneys, digestive track, connective tissues, circulatory system....pretty much all organ systems. After WLS, staying hydrated is particularly important and you need to be sipping all the time. One big reason is you simply can't guzzle liquids, even if you become dehydrated. Our small sleeves simply make it impossible. Dehydration and ending up in the ER on IV fluids is one of the most common postop complication because of this. The only way to avoid it is sipping all day, every day so you don't fall behind on your fluid intake.....cause you can't catch up. And it doesn't have to be water. Any non-caffeinated/non-carbonated fluid will do.

As a rule, everyone should be getting 64oz of water/day. Minimum. If you want to lose weight, you need even more. The metabolism of body fat requires a lot of water. Studies show that drinking AT LEAST 1/2 your body weight in ounces is optimal for weight loss. Which means if you weigh 200 pounds you should be drinking 100 ounces of water. I've been in maintenance at 135-140 pounds for 2 1/2 years and I still shoot for 100+ ounces daily. I notice a big difference in my energy and ability to consume excess calories without gaining weight if I get less than 64 ounces.

Water is what the body uses to flush away everything as you are loosing weight. Without the water intake, dehydration becomes a big issue quick. I am struggling everyday with constantly sipping water. I get distracted and forget. As a result, I get light headed sometimes and life gets difficult. It is a new habit to learn but one we have to do.

I lost 40 pounds before my surgery. I spent 2 months just doing what my fit bit told me to and cutting out soda(pop). Then I lost some on the 2 weeks prior protein diet. The rest has been since. Stay strong and keep your eyes focused on long term goals.

My daily water intake is 100 ounces or more, I only count my water, no other liquids like coffee or milk.

34 ounces between breakfast and lunch
34 ounces between lunch and dinner
34 ounces between dinner and bed

This system works great for me and is easy to monitor. I just fill up by water bottle and drink the required amount during the time allotted.

Find something that works for you. It really isn't hard to get your required water in your daily routine. Good luck to you!!

My weight loss has slowed a lot. My water intake isnt that much, and also I've added 2 cups of coffee a day with skim milk and equal. I was thinking maybe the coffee has slowed me, but maybe it is because I'm not getting enough water. I'll up my water intake and see if the weight loss gets going again.
