Default Clock is ticking - just a little over a week before surgery

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie who is scheduled to have my surgery in just a little over a week. It has been a long road to get to this point. Along my journey I found other issues and now have to have a hysterectomy. With the consult with both oncologist and bariatric surgeon - we have decided to do both surgeries on the same day. Has anyone heard of this?

I'm excited and nervous all in one.

No I haven't heard of this but I get it. Only having to go under anesthesia once makes sense to me. As for recovery, not sure how having the two together will affect you. I've never had a hysterectomy so I have no experience. Good luck! Reach out if you have any questions.

I had a total hysterectomy 20 years ago and I was in a lot of pain, discomfort and pretty much unable to do anything other than walk from my bed to the shower to the living room, for 6 weeks. And just like thAt, I woke up 6 weeks later and could move freely. I didn't have laparoscopic surgery, I was gutted like a fish.

Hello, good luck.. the best days are yet to come, your surgeries will make your new life journey wonderful. I had health issues going into sleeve and I am not a young sleever but having said all of that I had reversal from my gastric bypass and went to gastric sleeve. Honestly it has not been easy but you can do it!!!

    HI DesrtGal -

Fortunately the hysterectomy will be laparoscopic along with the sleeve. A few more small incisions, but more "things" being removed. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your surgery.

Good luck on your surgeries glad there doing them at the same time so you can go under anesthesia and recovery once

Hi, I had a hysterectomy 18 years ago, and it was not laparoscopic. I had a good month until I was getting around without pain. Since yours isn't total abdominal surgery, it seems like it may be easier. I agree with others that going under general anesthesia just once is better for you in the long run, but I think your recovery will be rougher than just the sleeve alone. Not trying to sound discouraging, just being truthful. I don't know your age, but having a doctor who can help you with hormone replacement therapy is really important if they are removing your ovaries also.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you have an excellent outcome! This forum is so wonderful and encouraging. Visit often! Cheers, Patti

I wish I could have had it laprascopically back then, but in addition to ALL my parts being removed, I had fibroids the size of grapefruits that needed to come out too. Like I said, after 6 weeks (to the day I recall) I woke up and could swing my legs out of bed and get up without screaming. Sweet relief!!
