    Default Let's talk about sleep

Did anyone have insomnia and after surgery it went away. I have had insomnia for over 3 years. The kind where I am so exhausted at night go to sleep around 8-9 and tossing and turning by 11-12. To finally give up at 2 or 3 and just let there or watch tv. I have done sleep apnea test I don't have it and also sleeping pills the knock me out (which I don't need because I can fall asleep) but I don't stay sleep. Even on sleeping pills I'm up at 4 hours with a groggy feeling but can't go back to sleep

I sleep so much better now for many reasons. I can go to sleep and almost make it through the night without having to pee. But I did a lot of what you described before surgery. It feels so good to sleep soundly.

I have an overactive mind and I get up to pee a few times a night. I used to be stuck awake after I would pee because I would start thinking about stuff. Since surgery I still wake up to pee but can fall asleep almost instantly! Yay sleeve!

Hi Nita, I too have insomnia, for many years due to hormonal issues caused by chronic Lyme disease for many years. I take a sleeping pill every single night, or I don't sleep at all. Sometimes I don't sleep even with the pills! I'm worried I won't be able to take my sleeping pill when I'm post-op for the first few weeks, and I won't sleep at all! That scares the crap out of me! I don't do well without sleep. Will my insomnia improve when I've been sleeved? Just wondering. Any insight and info would be appreciated!

My insomnia did not improve with the sleeve but I was able to take my sleeping pills right away after surgery. But surgery makes you sleepy so you'll sleep good for a while!

I have had problems with sleep for over 20 years and have been taking a prescription sleeping pill ever since. My brain just buzzes and is spinning like a hamster wheel the whole night if I don't take one. It's a pretty big sized pill, and if I have to crush that bad boy up and mix it with applesauce after surgery (when I get home), to get it down my gullet, I will do that. It's the only thing that keeps me out for 8-9 hours.

    Hi,
I have had sleep issues all my life. I just dont sleep. Its hard to fall asleep and then when I do its for 2-3 hours. I have tried everything and no one can figure it out. I am only 5 weeks out from surgery but I havent even taken the melatonin, I sleep great. I was thinking its just because Im still post op but my MD said that sometimes the surgery fixes things like this. Im hoping my ability to sleep remains as the onths tick by.

I had a sleep study, they said "Good news, you don't have sleep apnea," "Bad news, you were awake 49 times during the night." I think I inherited it from my mom's side of the family, no one sleeps.

Some people go into sleeve surgery thinking it will cure everything wrong with them. For me it cured nothing, except being fat. I still have to take meds for high cholesterol even though we tried three months without them (can thank my dad's side of the family for that, they all died young of heard disease.) I still have to take hormones for horrible hot flashes that never go away. I still take sleeping pills.

Not to mention after surgery I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, non-cancerous thank God. And now I'm recovering from a broken neck and ribs after a horrible fall. I told hubby the positive there was I am no longer fat so the paramedics didn't have to work that hard carrrying me in a stretcher up the stairs!!
