Lightbulb 8 Days Post Op pain is less but still pretty significant

Greetings Fellow Sleevers! I am 8 days Post Op and doing very well. I've lost 10 pounds and have been following the doctor's orders to the letter. The pain is definitely getting better, but it is not gone by any stretch of the imagination. I'm down to taking the pain meds only at night. By the time 6pm hits, the pain is creeping up on me pretty good. and by 8pm, I am absolutely doubled over with pain. The pain is localized to my right side where one of the incisions are. I told the doctor about this and he said that it was quite normal to have pain there since that is the site where the portion of the stomach was removed.

I really thought that I was going to be able to go back to work in a couple of days, but if I am still having this kind of pain, there is no way I'll be able to work.

Has anyone else underestimated the required time off from work? I'm afraid I may need another week.

I hope you feel better soon. I imagine there would be more pain where they do pull out the stomach. Maybe next week will be better.

I had no issue with intense pain but was really extremely tired for at least two weeks. On week three I had the stomach flue and was really drained. Took me one month to function "normally".
We all react differently to surgery. But if you can take more days off, that's probably the best option.
    Take care.

Thanks DG. I guess I shouldn't be in a hurry. Another week wouldn't be so bad I guess.

Hi Pam, sorry your having a lot of pain. Was wondering if your taking something like Nexium or Prevacid? This really helps with inflammation. How are you doing with walking? Wondering if you still have trapped gas causing increased pain. Hope you feel better soon.

Everyone is different. By one week I was back at work and not taking any pain meds. But I have had 2 C-sections so maybe my pain tolerance is a bit higher? I say listen to your body.

My doctor assumed that she clipped an unmapped nerve in the area of one incision. Ice and pain management.

Congratulations on your surgery. I am 8 days out as well and find I'm restless at night, and in slight pain still. I definitely get tired during the day, but have found walking has helped me greatly. I am working from home for 3 weeks, could you possibly do that? I hope you feel better soon!!

Well I am only 2 days post op and the only pain im having are the gas pains. OH my. for some reason I cant find the gas x that dissolves, so my nest option was nasty pepto bismol. Any other suggestions. My incision sites hurt very little though.

I couldn't find dissolved gas-X either, so bought the gel caps and took them. They were small and it worked. Congratulations on your surgery!

Congratulations on your surgery. I'm sorry you are in so much pain. I had a similar experience. The first 5 days or so I was in so much pain I couldn't hardly move. I originally planned to go back to work in one week but ended up having to take two. The pain was better in the second week but I still had to wear a brace on my stomach and wasn't comfortable standing up straight. The third week I could stand straight, didn't need to brace my abdomen and was pretty much able to move without pain.
