Default Starting to have second thoughts

Honestly, the more I read up, the more I convince myself not to go through with this. I start my pre op diet next week which I'm looking forward to, if anything to see if I rise to the challenge. I'm really lazy and unorganised and just can't see me sticking to things like taking daily vitamins, slowly sipping the daily water allowance, chewing slowly, etc.

I'm going to a class tomorrow evening to meet others who have had WLS and hope I get my mojo back. If I turn this surgery down again (3rd attempt) they will never offer it to me again.

I think I'm letting lazy get the better of me. Plus I'm going through a "food mourn" and trying to eat my "last" of everything. So my "last" Pizza Hut my "last fish and chips" my "last" bottle of wine. All I've done is put weight on for the past 2 weeks.

    Getting fed up now

    Pre op weight 125 Kg

Your choice. But know you don't have to "give up" anything after surgery. While the majority of the time you will eat your protein and veggies, a piece of pizza or glass of wine occasionally won't hurt you at all. (Just my opinion folks, worked for me!)

I guess you get to choose to stay fat, or put a little work toward being a regular sized person. And I say "little work'' because I don't think the changes were any huge deal. My life is still the same. We still go out to eat all the time, but I order healthier options and eat less. (I just look much cuter in my outfits.) Taking vitamins, seriously, that's difficult for you? That takes 2 seconds. The huge deal is how my life has changed now that I am at goal weight. I remember looking at catalogs thinking "too bad I can't buy that body." But with this surgery I think I did. Good luck with your decision, but just know it is life changing. If you are happy with your life or don't want to change anything, then don't do it. If you would like to get healthier and smaller, go for it.

I'm almost there- to a surgery date- and am ONLY looking to the future of being healthy, lighter and off meds for high bp, high cholesterol and hopefully drop the sleep apnea machine. I know the beginning is going to be rough but from what everyone say's, it DOES get better. I know I can still get to eat a taste of foods that I stopped eating in December when I began the pre op supervised weight loss program required by my insurance, but am not concerned about that. I want this. I am doing everything I can to do this and want to succeed. To be able to get off my meds; put the diabetes that I recently developed, to rest; have energy once again, swim without getting winded, walk without huffing, and being able to buy some cute outfits I have seen recently without having to drag my fat ass over to the PLUS sizes is motivation. I hope it works for you.

I honestly was sick of feeling like the biggest person in the room. Wearing tops that were too long, because I am short and fat, Clothes never looked right with sizes as high as 2X tops. I was always uncomfortable, sitting, walking, breathing....sick of it!
Since my surgery I have lost 55 lbs, and for the first time since I can remember I bought 14 petite pants, lg, top and cute petite jackets. I've gotten so many compliments and I feel 100 bucks! I'm eating breakfast, lunch and dinner and am now don't mind going out to dinner and also enjoy going into the dining area not worried if I can fit at the table.
By the way I'll be 59 in March and am looking forward to retiring very healthy. Also looking to get off of the CPAP machine. Thank goodness I hadn't developed B/P...yet.
    Best wishes!

    I'm loving my journey!

You are not lazy : you are morbidly obese and your body can't cope with the extra weight. That's how it feels when you carry the weight of a whole person on your back 24/7.
I know really well the feeling because I was exactly your weigh pre-op. I was at that weight (and more!) for 20 years! I even reached 150 kgs and it took me one full year to lose 30 kgs. Couldn't maintain, I was starving! One year of diet to maintain a loss of 8 kgs...is it not sad?
Because the truth is that when you reach those kinds of weight, you're only gaining weight each year...and your body is deteriorating like crazy...

Well I don't regret my sleeve, I'm 13 months out, don't feel "lazy" any more, can run errands, do chores and do not feel like dying after one hour of cleaning the house. I haven't lost all I want to lose so far, I think that it will take a long time. But at least I'm not gaining weight any more but loosing really slowly. And I'm not starving all day thanks to my restriction!

I was scared too before the surgery. For multiple valid reasons : my health is complicated and anesthesia does make me sick. But at the end I knew that doing nothing about my morbid obesity was going to kill me sooner than later.

Everything in life is about the choices we make: who we marry, where we live, what job we pick. But there's one thing in life that I couldn't control, it was my weight and by association my health. I know that bariatric surgery was a big step but I wanted to live longer and that was the only solution.

There's risks in driving a car. There's risks in surgery. But doing nothing about my obesity had more risks than going through with surgery.
I have three children and they need their mother: for me the choice was clear.

So if you don't have surgery, what are you going to do?

I'm going to be blunt here and say with the approach you are taking if you have the surgery it will eventually fail for you. WLS is a lifestyle change both physically and in more cases mentally. I would actually suggest talking to a therapist about your reservations. As far as your fears of not drinking slowly enough or eating and chewing your food properly well the discomfort you get from not doing it will make you say hmmm maybe I'm eating to quickly or drinking to fast ( i ate to fast this a.m. and battling the discomfort as I write this). I really wish you the best and hope you can come to terms with the hesitations you are having the weight lose and health benefits truly can change your life.

Not many people here did not second guess themselves at the last minute. You are seriously not alone here. It seems so final the closer you get. But it is not final. You can little bits of everything you like at some point in time. The first year, if you want to maximize your weight loss, will be more restrictive. If you can control your sugar and carb intake you will do great.

My only thought about this preoccupation with vitamin intake is going to be that if you continue to stay obese eventually you will be on plenty of medications just to help you live due to the array of health issues related to obesity. Ultimately this is up to you. You make your decision and then live with it. Good luck.

From one lazy lady to another, you can still do this. I am quite possibly the laziest person on the planet, as in my step count each day barely reaches 1,000, if that. I never once exercised. I did not cut out carbs. I eat whatever I want whenever I want. I lost every single pound plus a lot more. I'm 5'4" and 108 pounds now. To people that say you will fail...well, they can go suck a big one. They don't know anything. All of our bodies are different, and plenty of people that do it right never hit goal while there are also people like me that had no problem losing the weight and keeping it off for over two years now. You never know what will happen unless you try it.

It is a big deal, though. Don't take it lightly. I was really really sick for the first year. I still get sick now. I'm tired all of the time. Zero energy despite getting in well above the recommended protein. But, I also don't take vitamins. Again, that's how lazy I am. Im just too lazy to bother with it even knowing how crucial they are.

There are many many days when I wish I could go back and not have the surgery. Then I remember how much I hated that body. This body looks like a 12 year old boy, but the body itself feels good. So, I really don't know what I would do if I could go back. Good thing I don't have that option. Only you can make your decision.
