Default Continued nausea, what can be done.

Hello, I am a gastric sleever. Im about 3 years out. I still deal with nausea on a daily basis. Im wondering if others who have had surgery, have dealt with this so long after the surgery. I have this weather I am eating well or bad. It may have to do with my issues with dehydration. I need to see Dr. but wondering what other experienced sleevers do if they suffer with continued nausea. Please and Thank You!

I don't have it all the time, but I have begun having it frequently again recently. The vomiting has been an issue again recently as well. I don't know why, and I don't have any advice for remedies. For now I'm just living with it. Doctors never figured out why I vomited so much for the first year, so I certainly wouldn't have any hope for them figuring it out now. Not even going to bother trying. I do worry about my weight falling too much, but so far it's staying right at the line of just underweight.

I haven't had the procedure done.. so this is purely on the basis of how to alleviate nausea without drugs. Peppermint alleviates nausea so if you can drink peppermint tea or suck on peppermint hard candies, it will help with the nausea you feel. This is an alternative to drugs and may help relieve the symptoms but do get checked out by a dr if possible. Also please let me know if you notice that the peppermint does or doesn't help. I don't know how the sleeve procedure will impact natural remedies like this.

I find peppermint tea helps me deal with the nausea as I'm experiencing it. Usually when I have nausea it's either from taking my vitamins on an empty stomach or eating something that is too rich for my still healing tummy. I take my antacids every morning because I have hear multiple docs recommend omeprazole for the first 3 to 6 months to facilitate healing and adjustment.

    I would ask a physician.

Yes I do, and my sister had a sleeve too. I had a mini gastric bypass. My sister and I both had WLS about 4 yrs ago now in Mexico actually, and we both lost weight, but it is very common to become nauseous often. Most times it is due to sweet foods. I think it's something you learn to live with after a while and you can then discern which foods make you feel like that. Overeating a certain food can do that too.

Talk to your surgeon! You shouldn't be nauseous this far out.

Have any of you experienced nausea due to eating particular foods? I'm 6weeks post op and trying to figure it out more thoroughly.

I've compared my my new food issues to pregnancy food aversions and cravings. My cousin who is 2 weeks out of being sleeved said the same thing. II can't seem to have chicken. the look, smell, taste, texture, it just doesn't sit well with me. And then for cravings, I want hot sauce on everything. Bizarre.

Are you having nausea with just certain items? Or food in general?

Fibrous and tough meats will cause you stomach ache. Steak, tough chicken, Pork chops, etc it gets better the further out you go and the better the cut of meat. Filet Mignon great, sirloin -stomach ache.

Are you still taking a PPI?
Long story short, I was vomiting non stop for 3 days post-op, and had the worth nausea for 6/7 months. Basically my complexion was the color of a lizard that whole time. Anything could trigger nausea, smell, taste, being hungry, thirsty...anything.
I was expecting the nausea because of my health history, my surgeon did warn me about it. He said that between my pregnancies (for one I was sick 9 months) and my complicated health, hormones in my stomach would probably strongly react to the surgery.

What happened around month 6/7 is that I was able to manage to cut the dosage for my PPI, going from 30mgr to 15. Then from month 8 I was taking it every 2 or 3 days.
Ten days ago I stopped the PPI completely.
So far it's important to take a PPI post-op to protect our sleeves. We need it.

But I think I had unfortunately two side effects: strong nausea and also vitamin deficiency.

What did help a lot during those 6 difficult months with strong nausea was taking an homeopathic remedie "MediNatura, BHI, Nausea, 100 Tablets".
It's cheap and worked really well for me. It even helped when I was feeling sick in planes (and I didn't have motion sickness in planes before the sleeve!)
Staying well hydrated is also important.

But if nothing is working, may be you should see a doctor to make sure nothing is wrong in your GI track.
    Good luck!
