I hope your insurance is covering your treatment in the states. Seeing my company had a flat No Bariatric policy, if I had any complications or had to go back to the hospital, that would have been 100% out of my pocket. We would have been bankrupt.

I'm glad you got your story out on the news. I pray you feel better soon!

This is misleading. They implied that your complications were caused by going to Mexico for surgery, when in reality, they were just possible complications from ANY surgery done ANYWHERE.

I could have had the same complications if I had had it done here, yes. But when you go to Mexico to have surgery, if things go wrong, they're off the hook for fixing you because you're already back home. I can see my post bothers you, if you had gone through everything I've gone though and am still going though, you might fell differently

Lisa, I am so sorry to hear that things have gone so wrong.
I believe you and I had the same surgeon. I had no complications. My experience was all positive.
I had done a lot of research. Actually I did years of research. I knew my risk, but weighed them against my health risk of being so over weight.
Just like many others, I chose Mexico because it was not covered by my insurance. I made the right choice for me.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

    Lisa,
You are absolutely correct in that when you go to Mexico and develop complications later, they are off the hook. I totally understand that going there and paying that amount cash is a godsend (for those who do not develop complications afterward). Many insurances do not cover bariatric surgery or make it almost impossible to get. So Mexico is the answer and for the majority of folks...it works. However, like you what happened to you, complications that develop after you get home, is a nightmare. Hoping you recover rapidly.

I feel the biggest complication specific to Mexico would be a blood clot from sitting on a very long plane flight. I had those cool things on my legs in the hospital that felt like a massage to prevent blood clots. I know I was plugged in, but they must also come run by batteries. That would be perfect for a long flight.

Well all I want to say is I was there. I had surgery the very same day with lisa. I did exactly what I was supposed to do when I was supposed to and absolutely no complications what so ever and I'm down 90lbs. I get so mad seeing not all the facts being put into play.

I was wondering how you were, I'm glad you're ok. I had nothing but trouble, I followed all pre and post op instructions. I don't know why I had so many problems. I don't want to discourage people from getting surgery, I just want them to be aware that the complications can be very bad, if you have them. I'm still down, I go in to get my stents removed Wednesday. I have been in horrible pain for the last 24 days that I have had to have these stents in. Hopefully when they take them out, my leak will be healed, if not I will have to have a full gastric bypass to fix it. Idk why my body reacted so badly, I'm not saying everyone is going to have a bad experience, but if you do, it can be very bad & you can be down for awhile and even die if you don't get treatment in time. I'm not telling anyone to get the surgery or don't, I'm just sharing my experience. Of course the news was a little dramatic, that's what they do. I myself want all information available, good, bad, or otherwise when I'm making a life altering decision. Once again I'm glad you're ok and doing well. I have really lost anymore weight than right at first because I'm on this TPN IV nutrition stuff and it's high in calories. I hope everyone in our group is doing well, and I hope the best for all future sleeve patients as well...

Well i am truely sorry for the problems you had. But I think the news thing was way over board and very upsetting. You could of had the same issues right here in the great USA but because of our shitty health care system we as a lot of people are forced to use other means. I truely believe that this surgery saved my life and will save others. I will always be an advocate and support surgery in Mexico. I hope u get better and be well.

Bill, I have been an RN since 1972. The last 11 years of my career were working on post op surgery floors and the last 6 in an ICU. There is no why or reason if two people with similar heath histories have the same surgery; one person has complications and another does not. Perhaps some day technology will advance to figure it out but right now..... there are risks; some small, some very large. I can sympathize with Lisa, nobody expects things like that to occur.

Thank you, & that's all I'm saying, I want people to be aware that if things go wrong, they can go very wrong and it really sucks. But if I had it to do over again and this hadn't happened, I would do it again. In time I might feel that way anyway, idk. Just want people to know what happened to me personally.
