Default Can we talk about poop?

Post surgery, how often when on full liquid? How often once you went to soft foods?

How long until you should start taking something?

I went once since surgery, maybe a week after. I don't feel like I need to go. But it's weird not to go. I am still on full liquid. I am just wondering what to expect.

Depends on how you are feeling. I take a daily stool softener and I am just now starting to have regular-ish poops. I had a really hard poop after surgery. I had to take an enema. I was only going every 5-6 days so now I am doing much better. I would take an enema if I did not poop after 6 days. We may be on liquids but pooping is part of life. I poop probably every other day. Sometimes more often. But I do know that without my stool softener I would not go.

This is nice to know. I was having the same problems. I am now going to be better at taking my stool softener every day.

I have been taking magnesium at bedtime for 4 or 5 years and NEVER have a problem with going in the mornings. I seriously doubt I can take them after surgery because the pills are the size of a small motor home, and are liquid capsules. But they DO work magic.

I had horrible constipation the first five months. I was drinking 68-80oz of water daily, took all kinds of supplements like magnesium citrate, castor oil, suppositories, and several over the counter stool softeners. Nothing worked, a lot of those things specially magnesium and castor oil you aren't supposed to take long term.

I'm back to normal, and I contribute it to eating vegetables daily, taking probiotics and enzyme supplements, along with a RAW Fit protein supplement for snack. I also take a tripe organic fiber (brand is RenewLife: flaxseed, oat bran and acacia fiber) once or twice a week.

You can't take any pills for a month after surgery. Only liquid or chewables.

Pre-surgery I went 1-2 times a day. Since surgery I went once. I don't feel like I need to go, but am wondering if I should take miralax.

Some folks here have been able to take pills after Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery, just follow your own surgeon's recommendations.

Also, read labels carefully even Miralax is not supposed to be used long term. You might want to look up side effects of prolonged use of a lot of stool softeners, they tend to absorb essential nutrients and needed vitamins post op.

When on liquids, I only went about once every five days or so. Soft foods was about every few days. The more protein shakes you drink can constipate you but if you eat protein bars with sugar alcohols, it can give you diarrhea.
