Default Starting Pre-op diet today - Surgery date 1/17

Good Morning and Happy New Year to all. As the title says, I am starting my pre-op diet. As the day gets closer I am puzzled by my lack of excitement or anxiety. To be honest I have mixed emotions as a proceed. I look at this as a necessary step I must take to have a high quality of life remaining, I'm 73 & 9 mos. I am in relatively good health, but if I don't do this, it will be a downhill slide, and I will wish I did it when I had the opportunity. I think the hardest part will be the Pre-op diet. Since I will have my entire stomach I expect I will feel hunger pains vs after when that part of the stomach is missing. The only person who knows of this procedure is my wife and the DR. I told the people at work that I needed time off for surgery - "Intestinal Problem" it's none of their business and let them wonder. I will be using Fitday to track my intake.

Guess that's about all, Take care and thanks for listening.

    Hal

    Hi Hal,

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I'll be going a few days ahead of you on Jan 13. I am a ball of emotions, excited, nervous, anxious. But I do have moments of pure calm. I also didn't tell anyone aside from my husband who will travel with me. My mom will be watching our children while we're away. She know's I'm have a procedure but not the details. As for work...similar to you a medical leave for abdominal surgery.

I start my pre-op diet today. I am just thankful the holidays are over. I was overindulging with food and alcohol.

Wishing you all the best for the new year.

    Belle

Congratulations and welcome to the forum!

The hardest part of the pre-op diet, for me, was the first two days. After that, I adjusted and was good to go. Keep your eye on the prize and put forth A LOT of effort in those first two days. You can do it!

I felt the same way before the pre op diet. Can I do this? Will I feel hungry? Surprisingly I didn't. I was bored of liquids though. I just had to remind myself why I was doing it. Good luck and welcome!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! My surgery is Tuesday & I'm on the second day of the liquid diet. I'm pretty hungry I must admit, but I've been eating jello & popsicles like crazy, that helps a lot. I saver my protein shakes & my 2.6 oz of tuna at dinner. I don't dare deviate from the pre-op diet. I'm going all the way to Mexico & I don't want any complications. I just keep reminding myself that this too is only temporary, and I keep my eyes on the prize of feeling and looking so much better. When I think about how much better things are going to be, it really helps me hang in there... Good luck to you! Thoughts, prayers, good vibes, & big hugs to you! You've got this! If you can face each day with the mental and physical pains of being obese, a few days of hunger for a better life are nothing when you really think about it...<3

I officially start mine on the 4th. But I have been spening a lot of time over the last 2 weeksgetting to know it, somedays doing the preop, and get plain getting my feet wet before I officially start. My surgery date is the 18th. My enthusiasm and anxiety is also going away, I think I feel thoughtful and focused understanding that unlike other surgeries where I only have to show up, I own a role in this. Good luck to you!

Welcome! Like you, I was neither anxious nor excited. I've been reading, studying, and watching YouTube videos since 2012. So, I guess I had all the info I needed, I just needed to make the move. As far as the hunger pains; I spent so much time trying to figure out how to drink enough fluids, my mind was (and still is) preoccupied. Stay the course, and congratulations!

I'm on the 18th, getting more nervous at night. I might even be more nervous about the pre-op diet at this point, but maybe that is because I am just avoiding it in my mind.

Up date on pre-op diet - 11 days since I started and am down 9 lbs. I'm satisfied with my progress. Zero alcohol and no problem there. 6 days to the date.

Welcome!!! You'll do just fine. Today I'm a week post-op. Feeling pretty good, sleeping well no major pains. I'm trying to figure out my new stomach and keeping up with the protein and water etc. Tomorrow I get to drive!! Freedom!!!

Hi Leslie, Congrats on your journey, I'm planning a 150 mile job interview 10 days post op. Figure I can sit and hold a steering wheel. How long were in in the hospital?

    Regards

    Hal

2 nights discharged on the third. Had great care. The key I think is making yourself get up and walk the hallway...walk, walk walk. You know you don't get any sleep when you're in so, I'd get up and walk...2am, 3am LOL
