I was told that certain proteins are better. For example I was told to avoid muscle milk brand protein shakes because they do not have the proper nutrients that we need. Here is a link about protein for bariatric patients. http://www.obesityaction.org/educati...t-loss-surgery

I believe protein is protein. You want to get the most with less so Whey is way to go. But one of the things I learned about protein supplements is that they are not all made alike.

There are three milk by-product Whey proteins:
    - whey concentrate (poor quality)
    - whey isolate (best quality, fast absorbing)
    - and Casein whey (highest quality, slow absorbing and it's recommended you take it before bedtime when you are the least likely to spend energy.)

There is also collagen protein, and I wouldn't recommend it to Bari patients because it marketet to assist skin and joints health, but medical studies I read you would have to take it long term to see results. Eat wild caught salmon and you will get same benefits.

There is also Goat milk protein which is supposed to be a high quality protein, because goat milk is closest to human milk. I had several samples from NAKED protein and I liked it.

There is also pure egg-white protein, which I am currently a huge fan of and I am using to supplement. I love MuscleEgg chocolate caramel! High protein zero fat and carbs.

There are vegan proteins made from different sources but most common is soy, (I had one I hated), there is also hempseed protein, and pea proteins. I have love Garden of Life: RAW Fit which is made from sprouted seeds and pea and several other natural ingredients. It can be grainy, but I love it because it really helps curb my appetite.

Ps... post-op to about 1 month I used Premier Protein (I bought from Costco) exclusively. I had me one month follow up labs and everything was perfect, but at three months my Protein levels had reduced. I stopped Premier, by then I was already on phase 3 and eating more solid protein, but I started supplementing with RAW Fit and the MuscleEgg proteins, once or twice a day for snacks. I just had my 8month labs done and my protein levels are back to normal, as well as as my sugars, cholesterol and AC1.
    Reason: Ps...
