Post Help my surgery didn't help any suggestions

It's been a year since I had my gastric sleeve bypass. I lost only 60 pounds, I'm able to keep off the 60 pounds . I lost the 60 pounds the first three months and haven't lost any more weight just maintain the weight. I do not exercise a lot, mainly because I'm still 326 pounds and it's hard on me I'm depressed all the time and feel like crap. I thought I'd lose at least 100 pounds by now. I feel like a complete failure. I feel like I did this surgery for nothing. And then I run into people who tell me how they lost 180 or 200 pounds, and I'm like how in the hell. What am I doing wrong?

Have you talked to your Dr.?
What are you eating? How much? Walking works wonders. Don't get discouraged. We all started somewhere. Start a food journal. Are you eating high protein low carb? I really hope you can find out why you are stuck. Wishing you the best of luck!

    Hi kelly,

I'm sorry to read that you are disappointed with your surgery. But you should may be contact your surgeon and have a few exams to see what is going on. Losing for only three months is really weird. Are you tracking your food? eating enough protein? drinking enough water? We are not all equal in front of weight loss surgery. I've been in a stall for more than one month and I see fellow sleevers that don't have that problem for so long. We have different metabolisms.

For exercise when I was over 300 pounds I liked swimming and doing "aqua aerobic ". At the time we had a pool in our garden so it was easy. But since the surgery I don't have access to a pool so I mainly walk and do little weight training. There's also great exercise on Sparkpeople: videos for people with injuries that I used to help when I couldn't do much.
I hope you will be able to get some help from your doctor or nutritionist. Take care.

Are you following the rules we bariatric patients are supposed to follow? Eating how you should? You know, the protein first, then veggies, then other stuff only if there's room. (Which there probably won't be.) Drinking your water? Getting in your protein requirement? Avoiding any junk food? Taking your vitamins? Only you know what you put in your mouth. You say you can't exercise, maybe you could start with "Sit and Be Fit" that's on TV? Or a pool would be great if that is available to you. You can search the internet for exercises for people of size.

I would go back to your surgeon and have a serious talk. I would also ask that surgeon to recommend a therapist. You may be suffering from depression.

On the plus side, 60 pounds is a whole lot of weight! Best of luck to you.

Although I don't know what it feels like to try to lose weight at 300+, I can say that when I started jogging at my highest 230lbs, I started walking on the block in front of my house. I started off walking once or twice a week. Then I gradually increased it. And I can say that I was able to see huge progress and ended needing a park to jog in. Exercise is great to help break a stall, if that is what you're experiencing. I agree with the previous posters, you need to follow-up with your surgeon. As someone who has loss weight and gained it back after complications, I have come to see the folks who are successful are those who have a good support network. You can use sites like here, use an app to log your exercise and diet, and join your local support group.

    Wishing you all the best!

    Heu Kelly,

You are right to be frustrated, but like others have recommended don't wait another day without contacting your surgeon.

Also, are you on medications? Make sure you lay everything on the table when you follow up with your doctors.

Remember that the surgery was not a magic wand that was going to make all your weight go away. All it does is assist you when you do the hard work like eating nutrient dense diet and lowering, stopping or modifying junk, fried and sugary foods including alcohol that have no or little nutritional value. Adding some daily activity also may help, it doesn't have to be drastic but you have to start with 5, 10 or 15 minutes at some point.

Again it all depends if you are taking prescriptions.

    Wishing you best of luck.

I had my sleeve done in Aug 16. I lost weight the first two weeks and then I gained. I was able to chug liquids from the beginning. I knew something was wrong. I was real hungry all the time.
Had my surg in Mexico, picked the wrong DR. DR. Kuri

Decide this was bs.I called the office and there only reply ws I was eating too many calories, I was not.
4 mos later I went to a Board Certified bAriatric surgeon in Mexico. DR Kelly
He revise my sleeve to a by-pass.
DR said to me prior dr did not remove enough of my stomach and left the fundus. I was correct it was not done right.

I use this site still cause rules are about the same, and I have friends here. except for dumping.. I had a taste of apple pie last night and it was so sweet could not stand it.

I am losing weight now like most people.
I know it was drastic, but i had the money in savings and I am worth it. One way or other.
Now if I do not lose weight it is because of my behaviors.
    So glad I did.

If you had in in the US check in with your dr
or get a second opinion endoscopy will help, but may not tell the whole story

    sorry this happened to you.
I may be all wrong and you're a slow loser... just my thoughts.

my suggestion is to start tracking every bite and swallow that goes into your body to see exactly where you can improve your diet. Some people are extremely carb sensitive and cannot eat bread, rice, pasta, potatoes and sugar in ANY quantity. It would be good to know if you're one of those people.

Until you have a baseline, there's no way to know where to start first. You could always do another 2 wk full liquid diet or the 5 day pouch reset to see if you can get a kickstart.

I agree. Track everything and contact your surgeon. I'm sure they'll want to know exactly what you are eating to assess what the problem may be. Also there are slider foods that are different for each person. These foods can be consumed in greater quantities. Usually they are fattier foods like fried food, sweets, and ice creams/shakes. Regardless, unless you are eating really poorly, I just can't see why you would've stopped after 3 months unless you were super light to begin with. Hope they can get your weight loss moving again.
