Default Nausea - how bad is it really?

Hi. I am pre-op. One major thing that scares me about the surgery is the idea of having severe and persistent nausea after the surgery is over. I can cope with pain, but I don't know if I could cope with it if there's very bad nausea after the surgery that doesn't go away quickly.

Those of you who are already post-op, did you have nausea? If you did, how bad did it get and how long did it last?
Please tell me both the good and bad so I am prepared for what I might be getting myself into.
    Thanks.

Directly after surgery I was very nauseous for about an hour. And then I slept. You have to sip. My surgeon prescribed me an anti nausea for home. I only used it like 3x. You just have to remember to sip slowly and frequently after surgery. For me I did better with broths and creamed soups then my shakes initially. Every person is different, though. I'm 7.5 weeks out and if I eat too fast or too much I still feel queasy but haven't gotten sick. I've adapted pretty well and rarely do that though. So overall, I'd say it isn't too bad. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Good luck!

My doctor gave me the nausea meds. I have only used three or four. I have not had any issues with nausea and have not thrown up. My problems have been sipping water enough to get in the fluid I need. No problem drinking I just forget and once you are behind it is hard to catch up for the day.

I think everyone is different. From a nausea standpoint, I was fine the day of surgery. The next day though, I woke up feeling nauseous. The nurse gave me some nausea meds. That didn't help so they tried another oral medication. Still no luck so they gave me some in an IV. That at least let me go to sleep. The nausea lasted about 24 hours. When I woke up the next day, I felt great. I don't have any desire to repeat that day though. Not a lot of fun.

A lot of people have none or only very minor nausea though so I wouldn't say my experience is typical.

I have never been nauseous, never thrown up. (In three years.) It doesn't happen to everyone.

Everyone is different and you really won't know until you wake up. I've woken from anesthesia extremely nauseous in the past so I specifically talked to the the anesthesiologist before this surgery to let him know. Whatever he used worked like a charm and I've never had a minute of sleeve-related nausea. (Can't say that about alcohol or medication-related nausea )
