I have told my husband and few relatives and friend, but I am planning not to tell anybody at work. I know there would be gossiping and quite frankly is none of their business. They know I am having some surgery though, if someone asks for details I am going to say gallbladder removal.

    Hey Marnie,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I can't tell you how much it means to have people understand the difficulty of this decision and know what it feels like on "the other side". Many thanks!!

I just told my boss I was having surgery. I didn't think that was a detail he needed to know.

I've told my husband and kids. As for work I'm taking a week off and telling them I'm having a laparoscopic hernia repair. I'm going to go no carb/no sugar starting next week so hopefully they won't be too suspicious later. But as everyone said, oh well if they are! We have to quit caring what other people think and worry about our own health and happiness!

I did kind of go back & forth about just telling my closer coworkers (we have a small team of 4 in part of a larger team) because the person who sits next to me asks me to lunch every day (she eats out every single day and is just an itty bitty skinny minny) and it will be easier to say no if she knows, but I'm hoping if I tell her I'm serious about the no carbs and no sugar she won't keep asking me. My extended family lives in other states so I'm not too worried about telling them.

I`ve told my husband, children and parents + several at work. I live in Norway. Everyone who has taken sleeve or bypass can stay home for 6 weeks with full salary, and since i am away for so long I think it`s important to tell my team at work.

You could tell people that they noticed you're having some gallbladder issues and need to change your diet up and lose weight. And then that you're doing a modifed 'atkins' diet/Ketogenic diet to bring your weight down. etc.

In the end who cares who you tell. You will be healthy and normal-sized. Just do what feels right for you.

My Surgery is 22 December, I have not told anyone except my wife, her Surgery is tomorrow. This is a life changing experience for us, it is our Christmas present to each other. If and when the time comes we will decide what to say......

I have only told a handful of people. My husband, kids, sister, father, and four close friends. At work I told people I was having my hernia repaired. Truth but omitted the test. Most people at work don't see me eat besides the close friend that I've told. People are commenting on my weight loss, though. I just tell them I've been replacing some meals with protein shakes. And exercising. Also both true. I think if a person in my obesity boat asked I'd be honest and ask them not to tell. Because at our job insurance covers it. I don't really think it's anyone else's business. But I know people who've had it and talk about it all the time on Facebook. I think I'm more private. It is a journey of self and I've got my support network. I don't really want to be judged or have someone constantly making things about my surgery. I think telling people is a personal decision. You guys have each other for support but have you told any family or close friends? My husband's family doesn't know. We see them at holidays and I was able to fake my way through Thanksgiving. I'll let you know how Christmas goes. I am in solids so easier to fake. And creamed corn in the center of your plate makes it look full. LOL.

We usually did all the holidays at our house with 20 or so friends and family. That is not the issue this season. ABOS.... best time to do it and make it happen, this year will be about us....
