I agree with di. I have alwAys ordered entree instead of mains, get nice healthy food. Avoid the likes of Macdonalds, kfc etc. Try local takeouts rather than chains. Fish and chips go for grilled or peel the batter away.

It helps take away some of the "why aren't your finishing that?" and the constant questions from the waitstaff asking "is everything alright? Is there a problem with the food?"
A lot of times you can ask them to split it in the kitchen for you as well. That way it comes to the table in a to go box and you don't even have to look at it.

Del Taco - chicken soft tacos w no mayo sauce. For breakfast they have 99 cent egg burritos
Pollo Loco - this is a given but just in case youre not in the mood for chicken you can get a side of pinto beans, delicious and the real thing, not like other places.
McD's - I love the grilled chicken snack-wrap, I like to get it plain or with no sauce, and I dont eat the tortilla
Carls Jr has a delicious protein style chicken sandwich. So good! Actually pretty much any burger there can be ordered protein style (wrapped with lettuce instead of a bun)

If Im in a super rush, I stop at 7-11 or AMPM and get one of those small tuna lunches on the go, they come with tuna and crackers. Or I pick up a Naked Juice with added protein (33g's!)

No matter where we have gone, I have always found something I can eat. I usually order what I want and end of taking the majority of it home for 2 more meals! It's easy at most restaurants as there are good food choices. Fast food-if it's a burger joint, then I get a small burger. If they serve chili or soup, I order that. I have ordered from the kids menu and the senior menus at restaurants when they allow me to.

Great idea. IHOP I like their 222 and get the eggs poached and turkey bacon. At Taco Bell and Del Taco I like a plain quesadilla, KFC their grilled chicken. With sandwiches I will get a half most places have a soup half sandwich combo typically I'll get a chicken noodle type soup pick out the chicken and drink the broth then I will cut my half sandwich in half take off the top slice of bread and eat it open face. As you get further out the chewing to mush isn't necessary and that fills you up faster. I have to make sure to always eat protein first because I definitely can over eat sliders. I have yet to have any server say anything beyond asking about a to go bag.

Hi Lorna...Thanks for the great suggestions. Also, if there's only soda at the fountain, you can ask for some lemons and add it to water with your favorite sweetener to taste. Most places like Mcdonald's has a list of their foods with the calorie, fat etc...count on the back of their placemats.LOL

My entire post gets erased sometimes with some kind of 'database error' and I have to retype the whole thing. I will summarize this time.
    Mexican restaurants:
order anything with the shredded chicken/pork/beef and remove the tortilla/shell. Eat the lettuce and fresh tomato, and you've not broken any rules!

At Qdoba you can get a "Naked Burrito Bowl" which is a burrito without the tortilla, then ask for no rice or sour cream and use their salsas as a condiment instead. Same goes for Chipotle. Qdoba also has a "Naked Taco Salad' option where you can get the salad without the fattening tortilla shell, as well as some really awesome tortilla soup you can add a protein to.
