    Default Weight gain

I have been working out for a good couple of weeks now. I gained two pounds. I'm irritated. I started drinking diet soda again and this might have contributed to the weight gain so I am going cold Turkey. I eat about 900 calories but don't know if this is too much. Has anyone else had these issues?

Carbonation? Doesn't carbonation expand the stomach, therefore able to fit more food? I agree, working out is a good thing and probably gaining muscle and getting rid of fat...give it some time....you will lose again :-)

Here is a piece of unsolicited advice...when starting a new exercise program, stay off the scale for a few weeks.

Glycogenation is the most common reason people experience weight gain at the beginning of a new exercise program. They suddenly progress from being sedentary to working out more. The abrupt lifestyle change from being a sedentary bump on the log to working out several times per week increases your muscle’s energy storage capacity. An active body demands more fuel, so it acclimates by storing more of the carbohydrates you eat as glycogen in your muscle.

So when you start a workout program you might be losing fat, but the progress you made is disguised by water weight gain. You may well have lost one or two pounds of fat the first week but gained several pounds of muscle glycogen during that time.

You then weigh yourself, see some weight gain, and conclude your hard workouts were all for nothing. Therefore, stay off the flipping scale. Measure your progress during these first few weeks by how your clothes fit, not by the number on the scale.

In addition, 900 calories is not nearly enough intake for an active lifestyle. The less you eat, the more your body retains water. The more water you retain, the bigger that number is on the scale. Give your body the food it needs, and it will eventually shed fat.

no, carbonation will not 'stretch' your stomach.
