    Default Meds, Barf, Help Please!

I cannot do it anymore! Smashing my pills and trying to get enough water in to swallow! I just almost got sick, it was a horrible feeling. THe meds are irritating the back of my throat and like I said, I cant get enough water in at once to swallow them all. How do YOU take your meds? I'm 4 days out post-op.

I too am new to the losers bench 6 days of surgery. I had the sleeve and my dr. said I could take my pills split in half and if they're smaller than an m&m to take them whole. I know, I know crushed meds in applesauce is terrible. Flash that idea to him, see what he says.

I never had to crush my pills. I just too them. I have never used a lot of water to take my medicine though so that might be what helped me. You have to learn to open your throat and use just enough water to let them slide down.

Call your doctor. Depending on the medication, it may be available in liquid form.

We had our surgeries in the same day. I cut my pills into tiny pieces and take each piece one by one. That's what the bariatric nurse at the hospital told me to do. Sometimes, I realize I've taken too much water, so I wait a few minutes before I take anymore.

Check with your doctor. I was able to start taking them whole the day after surgery. They even gave me meds, in a pill form, while I was still in the hospital. If that fails, I'd suggest a pill cutter - they're cheap and will cut them pretty clean so you can take them a little at a time.

    Good luck!

    what meds are you taking?
Can you not take them for a while, until you can swallow them whole?

I take thyroid meds and they're small enough to take whole....I took them in the hospital, even. BP meds...same thing-they're small.

I use a pill cutter for pills that are non time-release and are larger than the doc recommended (eraser on a pencil). Otherwise, I just take them one at a time if they aren't too large. The exception is the Prilosec capsule - the nurse said I could just swallow it whole if I want (so I have been, with no issues). Good luck!

I am so thankful for all your ideas! My nurse said I had to smash because I would have malabsorption issues, i.e, my stomach couldn't break them down enough...I also started on my bariatric vits, I'm going to stop them until Thursday. I'm going to take my 10mg Citalopram whole or in a half, its already the size of a small beauty mole. They have been mashing my pills since the hospital, now my throat feels like raw meat.

So how is everybody, aside from pills, how are you feeling? I've been trough regret, hunger, guilt, and just fine! I'm actually mourning a big bowl of salad as we speak, grrrrr! If anyone wants to talk directly please PM me or email me at posleebee@gmail.com I want to hear your stories, it will make me feel less psychotic and perhaps I can help too! xoxo

I'm laughing at the salad thing....I couldn't wait to delve into a big ole salad....HA! I could hardly eat a 1/4 of it! that's a good thing, though.

Also, you're nurse is cray! lol you still have a stomach, just a smaller one. you can still absorb your meds.
