    Default Just miserable and po'ed

I thought my health issues would be better after I lost the weight..but NOOOooo, my knees are still so bad I can't exercise, my right hip is very painful and I can't hardly walk on it. I'm waiting for a specialist to call me with an appointment. I'm just tired of it...I'm still out of breath all the time. Tired all the time...just sick of it. I'll be 62 the end of next month and that's not so old as to be miserable.......

It sounds like the weight wasn't the reason for the pain. Maybe you have arthritis??
I don't know how tall you are but my friend was 5'5" and 165lbs. It wasn't until she got to about 135-140 she felt any
relief of her knee pain. Maybe you still have to get those last 23lbs off before you have relief.
Hang in there, be glad about your success despite your health issues.

Hopefully the specialist will be able to figure out the source of the pain and come up with a plan. Sometimes the joint stuff is not weight related. If your cartilage is damaged enough, you are dealing with bone on bone pain that no weightloss will help. I have 2 very good friends that have been thin their whole lives and have had to have knee replacements. Another very thin friend had a hip replaced. None of their issues were related to being overweight. A 4th friend who was obese had gastric bypass but still had pain even after reaching goal. She had one knee replaced 1 year postop and the other she is having done next week (3 years postop). The upside to having had WLS is that her recovery will be easier without carrying around an extra 150 pounds. In fact, the surgeon would not even perform these surgeries if she was still obese. Good luck.

    CherokeeGirl,

I suggest that you see an Orthepedic Specialist or three for consultation. Over the past three years, my wife, (69 years of age) has had both hips and a knee replaced, (titanium on the hips) and has gone from practically being an invalid to now having the freedom to go anywhere and do almost anything she wishes to do. Congratulations on the weight loss.

62 is very young!! Look at Jane Fonda! She is doing great...she actually did have knee surgery ...I do think that many slim people are unfortunately dealing with knee issues and from a young age. I hope your specialist can help.
When I was at my heaviest I did have cartilage issue and took lot's of things: Arnica, the little homeopathic pills, but also the cream. It did help a lot. I tried Glucosamine...so so but a friend found great relief with that. Besides arnica that did work well for me, I noticed that taking Omega 3 did help a lot...I took the maximum dosage allowed during ten days and it was really helping. Of course I took Ibuprofen when it was really too painful and I couldn't sleep but that's not a good idea after a sleeve...
Anyway, I hope your doctor will find the best solution for you. Dealing with that kind of pain is really difficult, I had bad months because of it, I feel for you. Best wishes. Take care.

I know and feel what you mean. I am 66 and its been 3 months since my surgery. I do feel better that's for sure but my knee will hurt one day and then my shoulders the next day etc. So its just the pits to get old! I am so glad I had the surgery and have lost 46 lbs. I've got a lot more to go but I realize 'I ain't no spring chicken any more". I am going to an arthritis doctor in a couple of weeks. Hope he helps. Prayers to you.

    HI
Ive had surgery in june with a BMI of 34, I was disgusted at the aches and pains.I was facing the podiatrist casting my foot from severe plantar fasciitis. It was the most intense, chronic pain I had ever experienced.I have too bad knees, bone on bone not to mention an array of other comobilities.I was 5'7 210 pounds when I chose surgery. It was not for vanity reasons it was a quality of life issue!

Losing weight and seeing my body change has been exhilarating. However my plantar fasciitis is gone.I can walk and hike again.I am a nurse and am constantly on my feet. My knees still hurt, and I know they will have to be replaced oneday. I know this was the best decision. When my knees need to be replaced I believe I will fair better weighing less. I didn't expect miracles.I've lost 35 pds and need to lose another 35. It gets better everyday. I'm 60 and have used these joints and body fully. There are no magic bullets...bodies wear down. I'm just trying to be the best me,ready for whatever gets trown my way. I am so grateful for this second chance. At least when my weight stabilizes I can blame my body instead of myself

    good Luck

If it makes you feel any better, surgery did nothing for my health issues:

    1. I still can't sleep (I don't have sleep apnea, just can't sleep. During the sleep test I woke up 49 times)
    2. I still have to be on meds for severe hot flashes.
    3. I still have to be on meds for high cholesterol (runs in family, nothing to do with my diet.)
    4. I found out after surgery I have a brain tumor the size of a walnut. (Non cancerous, thank God, it just has to be watched yearly.)

No one said weight loss would cure all our problems, especially at our age. But we are still far better off and healthier with the weight off! Or as my dad used to say about getting old, "It's better than the alternative."

    Hope you start feeling better.
