Hi,
I am considering sleeve in Mexico if my insurance will not approve. Websites quote Surgeon fee as starting at $4599- what are the additional or hidden costs? I assume hotel, anesthesiologist and hospital are additional? Thanks anyone!
I had mine on 8/11/16 with Dr. Hernandez in Tijuana. I paid $3799. There were absolutely no hiddeneed fees
Everything was included. Food, hotel, transportation, etc. All covered. I gave the transport guys some tips and spent a few dollars at the market. No surprises for me!
Hi, I am going to have surgery with Dr. Almanza, fee includes everything except my flight to San Diego. So it covers it all, dr. fees, anesthesiologist, hospital fees, hotel fees, driver, nurses, meals....pretty much all of it. If you want to take money for spending, that is up to you. 12 days until my surgery!! So excited!!!
I had my surgery in Mexico with Dr. Ariel Ortiz. I had to pay $6,500, but that included everything besides my flight to San Diego. The medical transport can will pick you up from the airport, and take you back to the airport when you are all finished. It was a great experience. I have no regrets whatsoever. Best wishes to you as you make your decision.
You need to talk to your specific surgeon's office. I had surgery with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center and they were very upfront about every charge. The Surgery fee was all inclusive, including shuttle service, preop bloodwork, cardiac work up, anesthesia, hospital stay in a private room, unlimited postop consultation with OCC doctors and dietician, and three nights at the Marriot for me and my sister. The only additional cost, which I knew about ahead of time, was $160 for 2 months of postop medications.
But again, talk to your surgeon's office. I've heard of other places up pricing for a private room, extra guest, medical fast pass for crossing the border and certain medications.
I went with Dr Garcia in Tijuana. I paid extra for a travel Ins. policy, $700. which gave some minimal coverage in case of emergency, IE: leak when I got home...It was great piece of mind. I had 1 extra charge for anesthesia because I was not responding as quickly as the Dr. would have liked, so hubby paid $150. for that. I tipped the driver $20. each way from the airport, plus other incidental tips. I also joined the Marriott rewards club, & those extra perks included a great breakfast, for hubby of course, I had broth. If you have a travel partner they will have to get their own food . I received a bag of meds, bandages, antibiotics, all phone numbers in case of emergency etc. Good Luck
Yes... u fly to San Diego and they pick u up from the airport... Tijuana is literally across the border... if u look at a map u can see just how close... I chose my date according to how long it would take me to save enough money , accrue enough PTO for work...and ensure arrival of passport as well..plus, I have a wedding to go to at the end of September, and since only my daughter and my husband know about my surgery, I didn't want to have to make any explanations...about anything...My surgery is in October... hotel, meals, anesthesia all included in my flat fee price as well... Gall Bladder removal is $1000 extra if u choose to have that done at the same time... Glad I scheduled when I did too... Mine is only $3700... apparently, they were running a discounted price at that time... When u call to schedule ur appt. , they will go over a bunch of stuff with u...
My sister met me in Mexico for surgery, but we live in different states so I flew there and back by myself. I just asked for help lifting my carryon bag on the return flight. Another gal that had surgery same day had come from Nova Scotia by herself. Took 2 days of travel to get there and to get home. We kept in touch and she did fine. Wear compression stockings and walk walk walk every chance you get.
Dr. Ortiz is wonderful! I highly recommend him. The staff at the OCC were fantastic, as well. You could go alone, however, you may be weak from surgery. On the flight, I just kindly asked someone to help me with my luggage. Other than lifting luggage, you should be fine going alone.
