From what I hear, dumping syndrome is the worst! I want to make sure I'm avoiding this at all costs as I slowly introduce new foods during the healing stage. Can anyone tell me about their experiences and what causes dumping syndrome?

I have not experienced this but I looked it up and it says that not following your bariatric diet could cause this.

No idea what it is and I'm almost 3 years out. So don't worry about something that may not happen. (I thought it was more common in the gastric bypass patients, but I don't really know.)
I have it happen once in a while. I don't know what triggers it, but I sure do know that it happens!

I'm vigilant about what I eat, and try to eat a moderate diet of proteins, whole grains and vegetables and fruit. I also follow the Protein first rule.
I have had what seemed like dumping syndrome, and I think it was because I took sips of water with my meals.
Word of caution, once you start eating solid food, be careful with eating out. I also think that restaurant food makes me more sensitive and susceptible to dumping.

I had a sleeve done on Oct 7th and am experiencing dumping after my protein shakes. Yes it is full blown early dumping syndrome, complete with clamminess and lightheartedness along with the explosive diarrhea. it leaves me weak and shaking. I try to consume my shake slowly thinking it was volume triggered; but so far nothing is working. I can eat pureed foods fine without dumping. but as soon as a shake hits my tummy, the grumbling and nausea starts. I am trying to locate other sources of protein and am also considering it is the whey protein. Have I possibly developed a lactose intolerance?
you can most definitely have become lactose intolerant after the sleeve. Try making your own shakes with lactose free milk and protein power or carnation instant breakfast mix. If you like Starbucks frappuchinos, here's a homemade protein shake version:
1 c milk of your choice
1 packet instant espresso or instant decaf coffee
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use Unjury Chocolate Splendor)
1 Tbls cocoa
1 Tbls sugar free flavored syrup (I like hazelnut or caramel)
Put in blender with some ice

As other mention, dumping syndrome is typically a bypass term, but it's what my doctor called an experience I had after returning to full liquids (my diet was full liquid protein shakes 1 wk pre-op, 5 days clear liquids (broth, Gatorade, isopure, water) post op, then full liquids (low carb/low fat, high protein shakes). I don't recall clearly since its been a while. I didn't have 1 serving of my shake between 6 am and 2 pm, but I got heart palpitations, sweaty/clammy skin, nausea, diarrhoea and dizziness.
At the hospital, they confirmed my blood pressure was high and heart rate was over 100 (tachycardia). I did everything by the books, but my body reacted similar to dumping and/or refeeding syndrome. My doctor reassured that because I'm not running a fever or in pain, it could be sensitivity to the type of shake, too quick a reintroduction of nutrients to my body, so instead of 1/2 shake for breakfast witching 30 mins, sip on the shake for an extended period with water in between (pretty much a slower and lower dose than for his standard patients). In short, don't expect any dumping syndrome, most sleevers don't get it, but your altered body can rest to you doing the right thing in unexpected ways. Definitely follow your doctor's guide and let them know immediately about reactions to rule out more serious problems!
