    Question Tell me about your pre-op diet!

    Hi Everyone, I'm on day 1 of my pre-op diet and wanted to hear your experience with this. What did your pre-diet consist of? How much weight did you lose? Did you ever cheat during this part? Any tips for getting through these 2 weeks?

    My preop was supposed to be 14 days, but I was so excited I started 2 days early I was allowed 3 protein shakes/day and unlimited leafy green veggies. I got super creative with inventing different protein shake flavors and ate tons of spinach, lettuce and Brussels sprouts. I never cheated one single time. After all, the preop is designed to shrink your liver to allow for the safest surgery possible and I was not about to take any risks just for a brief satisfaction.

    I was starving, had a bad headache and was very crabby for pretty much the whole preop. Had a total melt down 3 days before surgery. Went to the grocery store on my way to work to get a huge blueberry muffin. I even walked in the bakery section and drooled on the case for awhile, but ended up turning around, walking out to my truck and sobbing for 5 minutes. I came to realize it was just a necessary part of the process I chose to go through when I signed up for surgery.

    I was required to lose 5% of my total body weight, or my surgeon would not perform the surgery. I lost 22 pounds instead of the 12 that was required. Just that much less I had to lose postop!

    My advice is to stay focused on your long term goals, realize the preop is a very temporary situation and don't get bogged down in it.

    I start in a couple weeks. Doc Says;

    Daily
    5 Protein Shakes
    1 Fruit
    1 Vegetable
    1 Starch

    Plus, drink enough water so that the water and protein shakes equal 64oz.

    Good Luck with yours!

    I was on a 2 week pre op liquid diet I was able to eat surgar free jello,pudding,cottage cheese and plane yogurt and all the broth I wanted low in sodium.
    And the lonly tip I can give you is think about other stuff than the diet it is hard but gets better as the days go by. How long is your diet for?
    Mine is 2 weeks, 3 protein shakes and 1 meal 450 calories or under. Doable but oh man it's no fun!
