Welcome Island Queen, I have not been able to find a surgeon in the USA who does sleeve plication. I do not yet know why this is but when I see my surgeon in the next month I am going to ask him because I am interested too. Let us know what you find out.

google Gastric Plication. Whole bunch will come up. Now it seems to me tha high they won't do it. t if your BMI is really high they won't do this surgery. but inquire and check it out. everyone is different.

I actually had chose this before the sleeve. I changed my mind after reading about them. Basically the plication does the same thing as the sleeve - makes your available stomach much smaller so you cant eat nearly as much. BUt the sleeve actually REMOVES the other part of the stomach, while the plication just folds it up inside itself (like balling socks or something). The downsides that convinced me I would prefer the sleeve was (1) the hunger hormone is not removed as it is with the sleeve, so no change in your hunger really, and (2) all those folds seem like they could potentially trap food and bacteria in there... A leak is bad with the sleeve, but its easy to spot and fix. It could take awhile to know that you had a leak with the plication if it is leaking into that part of the stomach all folded up. I guess an "up" side to the plication is that its possibly reversible - they didnt cut anything out, so they could "unfold" it... BUt honestly, all this money and going through major surgery - I want something *permanent*.

Good luck on your decision. I dont know if someone else can give the other side of this? Why the plication might be better for some people?

I have had no problems at all. I had my surgery Feb 28 2011. I am not hungry and I eat what ever I like but my stomach only holdve it done 20s 1 c. restriction is good. I was never ever sick and I had Laproscopic Survgery 5 small holes. I have lost 48 lbs.as I started at 225 I am now 177 . My percentage of fat is low so I have to level out. I am big boned so my Dr. has told that 165 or 170 is good for me. So I am aiming for 165. 12 lbs. to go. also I am 73. years young. I feel great. My only regret is that I didn't have it done 20 years ago. need a buddy who has had same.

I also had the plication. I just did mine on 2/26/2012. So I'm almost 4 weeks out. I've haven't lost all that much so far, but am keeping the faith. I was really glad I chose the plication over the cutting because I felt the risks were much lower. And if something should go wrong down the road I still have some stomach left to fix with. So you've had your plication for over a year? How is a year later?
