Hi, I am a 44-year-old guy living in St. Petersburg, FL. I will be traveling to Tijuana, Mexico for gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Sergio Quinnones on Sept 1st, 2016. I am both terrified and excited.

Congrats on the decision. I'm about 8 months out (actually, 8 months as of yesterday) and I too was nervous. No issues to date and down just over 100 pounds since starting the liquid diet a couple weeks before surgery. The first few months are the hardest - trying to drink enough liquid and eat enough food, but it gets easier. I remember reading before my surgery that the mental part of this is the hardest, and I thought that would be a piece of cake (no pun intended), but it truly is the most difficult part. My brain tells me I'm hungry or need to eat, but when I stop and think about it, I'm not. Old snacking or grazing habits are hard to break - something I'm still working on. Also, going out to eat can be challenging (depending on where you go). Good luck going forward!
Congrats! I am trying to prepare for the dietary change habits a month in advance. My Dr. has me doing the modified liquid diet + supplements for 2 weeks, then the liquid pre-op diet for 12 days, ,then clear liquids for 2 days. It is really interesting to me, how it changes how you look at food when everything has to be counted and most old food goto's avoided. I am hoping that easing into this will lessen the shock of modifying my dietary habits.
