Default 7 wks post op-HUNGRY all the time, HELP!

Has anyone else experienced this? I get full after a small amount of food, I'm eating the right things, protein, no sugar, no bread no pasta, etc. But about 1.5-2 hours after I eat I am ravenous again! I try to hold off for another hour or hour and a half. I'm up to about 1200 calories a day and I'm barely losing and I feel like I'm killing myself to not eat. What am I doing wrong? I started doing Zumba last week and now I feel even hungrier! What really freaks me out is as I get smaller, I should be eating even less. HELP!

Everyone is different. I eat, and yes 2 hours later I am hungry again. The key is we eat so much less now. When your hungry and you want to wait another hour try a cup of tea. I used to drink a cup of coffee and could easily get another hour before eating. Or make that a good time to get in another glass of water. Looking at your ticker you have already lost a lot of weight in 7 weeks. I know you have herd it here already but its true this is a marathon not a sprint. good luck.

Do you drink enough? also, that sensation could be acid reflux, not hunger. It did happen to me during those first weeks post-op. Take care.

I was the same way! The great thing, is you will be satisfied with just a few bites. You don't have to eat a whole meal. For me, it's just a handful of nuts or piece of ham. Strawberries are good snacks too. Careful of fruit though, they are high in carbs. Oh, cheese sticks are great too! Take care!

Thanks for all the advice! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is hungry. I know the water is important, I think I have not been getting enough... I know that can affect the weight loss too. I've been tracking all my food, I am going to start tracking my water as well. The tea is a great idea too, I forget about that! I love lemon ginger tea and that is good (soothing) for the stomach as well.

@lindagal I am glad I am not alone. I feel the same way. Hungry all the time. I am still in the mushy stage maybe when we start eating real whole food again it will be different. I hope so!!

I'm 23 days post op and I'm definitely on the same boat with you. Not only am I hungry 2 hours after eating I'm at what I have been reading about "3 week stall" I started the gym this week and working to increase my protein. Just wanted to stop in and tell you your not alone...

Eat something healthy when you are hungry. You may not be eating enough. I've found something like a handful of nuts, a protein bar, or a greek low-fat yogurt really fills me up when I'm hungry between meals. I would stop counting calories, just count protein and liquid, that's just what works for me.

I think many people feel they won't feel hunger after surgery. I know I didn't at first, but it came back. (And no it's not "Head Hunger," it's stomach growling I'm really hungry hunger. Just eat the right foods and you'll be fine.

I feel hungry too some days. I'm stressed being back at work also so I have to find different ways to deal now besides grabbing food. I now pack some extra yogursts or a cheese stick to nibble on. I have to focus on drinking more as sometimes I get so busy and I stop and say.. omg when was the last time I drank something. I am in a stall now but am waiting it out and am just going to keep on going. But you are not alone.

Are you drinking enough? Thirst can feel like hunger. According to your weight you should be drinking at least 110oz of water every day. Check out this article......
    http://www.gastricsleeve.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=62464

Are you taking a PPI or H2 blocker? If not, you should be. Acid often feels like hunger. Try taking Maalox, tums or Rolaids when you feel "hungry" to see if it helps.

On the other hand, I've eaten every 2-3 hours for the last 2 1/2 years. I am FAMISHED if I stretch it out to 4 hours.

I use an app on my phone to remind me to drink. If you can't at work you need to find a work reminder, ie. Watching my soap I drink everytime there's a commercial, set a timer or alarm and drink when it goes off, have a drink whenever someone goes past your door/desk.

I feel like I am doing better, drinking more water. If I have some chicken or pork chop for lunch I save a few bites to eat a few hours later or I have Greek Yogurt mid-afternoon. I just found some threads about "slider" foods! I was eating popcorn at night and I couldn't believe how much I could eat without feeling full! Now I know I really have to stick to the protein first rule.
