    Default Tiredness

Posted the other day about how tired I am. I thought I was eating really well but when I added my protein and calorie content it's really low 50 grand protein and approx 500 calories per day I've lost count of how many different types of protein shakes I've tried all may me want to vomit and upset my stomach. Any suggestions on how to get in protein without shakes and additives please

Just 24 days from surgery and liquids are still the best way. Eventually you'll be able to eat Quest Protien Bars (1/2 at a time) and that will give you good protein.

I made another thread where I praised ISO 100 Gourmet Vanilla. 1 scoop is 25 grams of protein. I put 2 scoops in a blender with 1 cup milk, 2 cups ice and then add whatever you want, like peaches or strawberries. I add 1/2 a banana and 2 Tbsp of PB2 Peanut Butter powder.

That shake gives me 422 calories, 64 Proteins, 33 Carbs. Without that shake my calorie intake is only around 500/day, but since I started it about a week ago it's boosted me up to around 600 - 700.

Also you can get some thin sliced deli turkey - the good stuff like Boars Head (I like Smoked PepperCorn) and wrap 2 ounces of it around a Cheddar Cheese Stick and that will give 140 calories, 0 carbs and 20 Proteins.

I'm still tired and lethargic too and need to get some more good carbs into my diet, but I'm learning little by little.

1 other thing to consider is that you being so close out from surgery your body is still adjusting plus the anesthesia is still in your system. So like you I'm just waiting on the energy to come and forcing myself get exercise - energy will come.

    Good luck!

I used unflavored protein powder sprinkled into and onto everything. I couldn't stomach the SMELL, never mind the TASTE of any protein drinks, shakes or powders at first.

The only thing I could do was increase the protein rich foods I was eating (and bump it up with the unflavored protein powder).

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Sending All Good Thoughts and Prayers!

I am just one month out and what I do as I used to cottage cheese and I carry it to milk and I add it to my eggs I had it to almost everything that I cooked that needs any kind of liquid and then I make a protein shake with one banana one scoop of unflavored protein skim milk and that makes about 45 grams of protein and I sip on that. Between the protein I get in the morning the shake and my protein snacks enough protein but I have to work on getting my calories up. I hope this helps

    Red face Re: Tiredness

Try Genepro protein powder, you can add to anything and there is no taste at all. I put in Crystal Light and sometimes I have 2 a day. There are 30 grams of protein per serving. It is sold on Amazon for about 35.00 for about a six week supply if you use it once per. I'm almost 8 months out and down 80, labs were perfect.

There's no way you can enough protein from food at just 3 weeks out. You have to make your own shakes, which taste sooooooo much better than the premixed stuff, or just wait til you can eat a variety of protein rich foods.

I'm 6 weeks out and can eat protein, before this, I just didn't get much protein because I couldn't fit it into my belly.

I was so exhausted for the first three months I didn't know what to do. I could hardly even work. It was awful. My doc told me things should improve by my three-month checkup, and they did...I get tired easily but don't have that bone tired exhaustion I had in the beginning. Good luck to you!

I was exhausted too. Once I got my energy back, people started commented how much better I felt. I had a bounce in my step they had never seen before. I moved to this town 8 years ago and was overweight and continued to gain. For me I took some time, but once I got my energy back there was no stopping me. It will happen. Just eat right, exercise moderately and be patient. It won't last forever.

I'll add my vote to the unflavored protein. I added it to chicken broth, coffee, iced coffee...
I am STILL tired often, and I am over 7 months out. I just make sure that I do good self-care and get to bed early.
It's not that I'm not eating enough protein or am dehydrated. I don't think I'm deficient in anything, as I religiously take recommended supplements. I just think that it is very HARD for your body to operate in a constant deficit, especially in the beginning when you are probably consuming 2,000 calories LESS a day than you were before surgery. It's WAY better now than it was then, but I still have to remind myself that I'm consuming less than my body needs to function, and that is why I'm losing weight.

    It does get better.

i understand that we need to add good complex carbs into our diet to gain the energy we are use to. Sweet potatoes, oatmeal, long grain wild rice - stuff like that.
