Hello All
It has been awhile since I've posted so I thought I would do the 1 year post.
Since surgery I have lost 95 pounds. The vast majority of that in the first 6 months. Total I am down 115 pounds from my highest weight. I have seen Onederland but I don't live there. Some carbs and slider foods have made their way into my diet but they are limited. I can eat much more than used to be able to do but I still stop at the first sign of being full.
I never have had a complication or serious issue since day 4 post op. I am back on blood pressure meds but a much lower dose. I am completely off cholesterol pills and the PC Doc told me to have all the lean red meat I want but to keep, the weight off because that is the killer.
The old aches and pains have gone away. I am not even thinking about back surgery as that pain has been gone for a few months. I have developed a new pain...my butt hurts on my tailbone. I've lost so much weight that I have no cushion anymore . So I choose softer seats and travel, with a pillow to sit on in my car for my long road trips.
My marriage is so much better I thought for sure we would divorce. So glad we have worked through the issues. Keep in mind the divorce rate is higher among bariatric patients. Typically the spouse of the patient can have a hard time adjusting to the new person that can emerge after surgery. If you don't have a strong marriage to begin with you are playing with fire. For my wife and I it finally worked out after several months of agony.
I am so grateful to have been able to do this surgery as it has given me a life that I never knew. Beaches, zip lines, wave runners, and dancing! Those are just a few of the things that I've done in the past year as the weight was coming off.
The wife, kids, and I all get to do stuff now. Dad is no longer left out due to weight. Dad is typically the biggest kid now wanting to LIVE LIFE!
