Hey all, I am going to have the gastric bypass. I would like to talk with anyone who has had this. I am 60 years old, 214 lbs. I have some issues with my health![]()
HI
Why gastric bypass? VSG doesn't cause a lot of the malabsorption problems bypass does, your weight doesn't seem like its to high for VSG,just curious.Gastric bypass seems a little more drastic. With VSG you can always do gastric bypass in the future if need be,however I doubt that would be warranted. Good Luck on your journey.
This is a VSG forum. You might have better luck on a gastric bypass forum.
I'm going to have the Mini Gastric bypass, The only reason for that is because I have Acid Reflex problems, And the Dr told me the Sleeve would make it worse. I really wanted the Sleeve, But I dont want to suffer with that issue. So he suggested the Mini Bypass. I plan on having it in October.
Even though MGBP sounds like an obvious choice between the two procedures, there are a few signifigant reasons why this might not always be the case…
Mini gastric bypass usually bypasses much more of the intestine than a standard gastric bypass which could lead to more vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
Unlike gastric bypass surgery, digestive enzymes and bile are not diverted away from the stomach after mini gastric bypass. This can lead to bile reflux gastritis which can cause pain that is difficult to treat. Bile reflux gastritis may also increase the risk of cancer in the stomach pouch.
Most insurance companies don’t cover MGBP surgery costs as they still consider it an experimental procedure
Because of the reasons above, experienced surgeons are less likely to offer mini gastric bypass than gastric bypass. This will make it more difficult for you to find a local qualified surgeon willing to perform the procedure.
More long-term research is needed to solidify mini gastric bypass surgery’s position as a viable bariatric surgery option

I have had reflux for decades and take nexium every day. I was sleeved about one year ago and thinking about weaning off of it. My acid reflux has only gotten better since surgery. I know that part of it is that I don't have all the belly fat, I don't stuff myself, less alcohol, no diet pepsi, and greatly reduced fried foods. When I do have something I eat very little of it, like chips and salsa. I know that it gave me acid reflux because I was eating so much of it.
