How long was your hospital stay? How much time off from work did you take after getting the sleeve? Did you do FLMA?
Surgery Friday afternoon. Discharged Saturday morning. Back to work the next Thursday. I have a physical job, on my feet all day, lifting, bending squatting, kneeling. I wasn't allowed to lift more than 20 pounds for 3 weeks, but was back to the usual 40-60 pounds after that.
I took off 2 weeks.....I work at a desk job.
Mine was a same-day surgery. I took 2 weeks off, but felt fine enough to return after 1 week.
To provide some context, I was working a lightly active shift-work job as a floor nurse at the time I was sleeved.

Glad I did it. I was not in pain or nauseous or anything negative, but, wanted to gift myself the time to recovery easily and focus just on me and getting in all my nutrition and walking.

Hi Mary,
I had my surgery on a Monday morning and I was discharged on a Wednesday morning. I went back to work on Friday. I have a desk job so going to work was not a hardship for me.
I think each person and surgeon are different. Some people will need 2 or more weeks off of work. Some surgeons will want patients to stay in the hospital more or less time. Trust your surgeon and trust yourself to know what is best. I may have gone back to work 4 days after surgery, but I only worked for a few hours, and then it was home for nap time. The second week I still only worked half days. By the third week, I was up to 3/4 days. Sadly after that it was back to full days. I miss the naps.
Robert.
Everyone is different. I have a very stressful long hours kinda job so I took off a month..figured two weeks to heal and some extra time to adjust. I did do Fmla, which of course was easily granted. I spent 3 days in hospital, a day longer than scheduled. I also have off an extra week..As the "plan" didn't work out as I thought. I had a bad bacterial infection they found in my esophagus and was put on three different antibiotics. .I had a rough time getting fluid in and as such was dehydrated most days despite my efforts. It was rough and scary..But I got through it . I'm 4 weeks post op now..doing better but home for another week..till I can at least get my fluids down. .protein. .thanks to premier protein and 30g..is easier. I've seen on site where people go back to work in days..and for me 5 weeks may even be to soon. But STILL happy I did this...I see the light at end of tunnel. Best of luck in your journey.
