Default 15 lb. gain in 8 days...???

    GSF,

On June 15th, I saw my Psychologist and weighed in at 260. Yesterday, I was 275 (home scale)...still 24 under where I began back in November. This coming Monday, I begin my 2 week pre surgery high protein, low carb diet. I have to admit that I had three horrible days of carb loading voracious eating, and have done better the last two days. But is it really possible for me to have gained 15 lbs. in 8 days? I do love salt, and especially like processed cold cuts which are salt bombs. Potato chips also. Could this have been my "one last fling" with junk food? I even made biscuits and gravy Sunday morning.

So disappointing. Went to the Symphony last week and moved down a size on shirt, trousers and belt. Tonight, I had to wear the next size up.

Did you have a home scale weight from around the time of your psychologist appointment? Some of the difference could be variance in the scales used.
Depending on how sensitive you are to salt, it may cause a little, but doubtful that much of a difference. I would say a combination of scale variances plus the carb eating and salt/water retention could cause that much combined.

I would focus on getting in as much water as you can to flush your body. You should lose more weight during your preop diet phase...most get put on high protein liquid diets, if that is what you meant by your high protein/low carb diet, you definitely will

Don't weigh every day and dring a glass of water every hour of your waking day. Try to do something different to your every day routine, this sometimes shakes things up and keeps your mind off eating titbits continuously throughout the day. Hang on in there, for the rewards will change your life! GOOD LUCK and tell us your success story in the next couple of months, as I'm positive you'll be beaming with delight.

Thanks for replying Rx and Blod,

I've had this home scale for a few years. Is it calibrated exactly like the one in the Dr's office? Not sure.

I try not to weigh myself to frequently, as this tends to make me crazy.

I'll just have to try and get my mojo back. After I start the high protein program Monday, I hope my weight might start to level off.

    Thanks for listening.

    Ron

In carb-sensitive people such as myself, carbohydrate loading causes bloating and fluid retention that results in a lot of temporary water weight gain. Remember that the liver utilizes water as it creates and stores glycogen from all the carbs you have been eating. Therefore, this water weight gain will show up on the scale as a heavier weight.

Ron, do you feel swollen at your joints? Has your doctor ever prescribed any diuritics? I tend to swell up if I eat too much sodium and had several cases of vascular edema. My doctor prescribed a low dose of Hydrochlorothiazide. I have seen the scale go up 5-10lbs from one day to another pre op, and after taking diuritic go down just as much from one day to another.

I came across this site with some potent protein drinks (wish I had known about it pre op): http://www.protica.com/products.htm

There is a cleanse/pre op drink that claims to help shed 20 lbs in one week.

    You got this!!!
    HW: 245lbs (11/15); SW: 226lbs (5/17/16) - Height: 5'6"

    Post-Op Weight:
    M1: 211.3 (-14.7)
    M2: 203 (-8.3)
    M3: 196.5 (-6.5)
    M4: 191.5 (-5)
    M5: 186.3 (-5.2)
    M6: (?)
    M7: (?)
    M8: 179.4 (-6.9)
    M9: 177.1 (-2.3)
    M10: 174 (-3.1)
    M11: 171.5 (-2.5)
    M12: 171 (-.5)
    Y1.1: 170 (-1)

    Shirl,

To the best of my knowledge, I only get swelling in my ankles/shins, and this is salt related, for sure. My R leg is where the arteries were harvested for my 2001 triple bypass, and that leg's the first one to blow up. I currently take 40mg of Lisinopril/Lasix daily, and will take a second one whenever especially salt bloated, like right now.

I previously took Hydrochlorothyazide, but not at this time.

I wonder if the drink you mention is compatible w my 2 week pre op high protein diet. I'll have to check it out.

As always, thank you for your input.

    Ron

I can still ( well less than before ) gain weight REALLY fast and to be fair loose it fast. Salt, fat and carbs and most especially all 3 would cause me to gain several pounds over a couple of days. I love visiting USA but Im afraid your food ( fast food ) is hideously fatty and salty or sugery and I could pile the pounds on every time! For example my recent holiday last month- i was about 246 before we left, 252 when I landed home and 238 just days later when I got back to my strict routine. I clearly lost " weight " with loads of walking but the bloating masqueraded about 14 pounds !!

I hate carbs ( but love the taste sometimes ) but its a killer for weight gain ! Stick to low fat high protein low salt low carb foods and drinks loads of water. It will fall off
