Default Surgery in Mexico: question re: tipping

I am having surgery in Tijuana in July. Somewhere I read about tipping, so I am looking for advice.

Is it considered inappropriate to tip?
Do you tip the driver on the last day or every time you are driven someplace?
Do you tip at the hospital?
If I want to leave a thank you gift for the nurses, what would you suggest?

    Thanks!

Just got back from Mexico and we did tip.The drivers were so accommodating we did it out of thankfulness.I'd bring dollars with you.Believe it or not you'll be pretty busy and won't be travelling back and forth to much.I'd tip when your picked up from the airport. Back and forth to the hospital but a few dollars is really appreciated but never expected. It's your decision. As far as the nurses go,I'd bring a few cards and give them a few dollars if you feel like that's what you'd like to do. I personally did not because it never occurred to me before I left the states. Some nurses were better than others.Their all working 2 jobs.I think the thought counts. Hope that helps.

I tipped just like I would in the states....bell hop at the hotel, maids, waiters and drivers. Tipped each individual time except for our main driver, the five of us there together tipped him $100 plus all our leftover pesos when he dropped us off at the airport. Didn't tip the nurses cause I never even thought of it.

I tipped my driver, & the hotel folks just like I always do in the US. Never thought to tip the nurses, God maybe it would have helped. I don't know if this is something that is done in Mexico or if it would seem insulting. I am a RN here in the US and it never occurred to me to tip a nurse.

Tipping might be the wrong word for the nurses. The few times I have been in the hospital I left a box of chocolates at the nurses station as a thank you and when my children were born I sent a gift basket to the primary nurse because she spent so much time with me and was so helpful.
