    Angry To the nay sayers

4 days out of surgery I posted some problems I was having and a few tried to help but most that posted told me everything they thought I was doing wrong and that I was sabotaging myself.
Im back just to say that today is 99 days since my surgery and everything is going well. I'm just a little over 3 months I'm down 114lbs.
To those seeking advice. Do your own thing and listen to your doctor because every doctor is different as is every person. What's good for you may not be what's good for everyone.

I haven't been here 99 days, but good for you! This is a journey unique to each of us and we should be here to support each other. Its always good to be open to suggestions and feedback, but criticism doesn't help. What works for you may or may not work for someone else and we each have to determine what the best path is for ourselves. Congrats on your weight loss!

Willy.... Like you I am retired and fairly new to this forum. Your recent weight loss success with the sleeve is quite impressive and the envy of all who wish to attain a more healthy body weight. Why not post a bit more information about yourself such as your starting weight and goals.

As I read your post I get the impression that you are "Spiking the football in the defender's face and doing an end zone dance." But I doubt that the people in your earlier thread told you that you could not or would not be successful in your weight loss objectives. Also, I am sure that the posters in your prior were trying to help you achieve long term weight loss thru healthy eating habits consistent with your sleeved lifestyle. Best of luck to you.

I have to agree, I don't think anyone was trying to be a "naysayer". They were just concerned that you were adding foods way high in carbs to your diet that soon after surgery. After doing this for 4 years now, I can tell you that you can get away with it for the first couple of years and still do well. The thing is, if you didn't make some modifications and behavior changes when you are starting, it is so much harder to do it when you can eat a lot more. I am still struggling to lose my last 15-18 lbs, and that's because I am not consistent with my habits. Take it from those of us who are a way out, listen to your dr and develop good eating habits, or you might be one of those who come back with the sad story of regaining. Check them out-it happens and it is a blatant reminder. Best wishes to you!

Three months of successful weight loss is entirely too soon to be doing the celebratory dance. Once the honeymoon period of 12 to 18 months comes to an end, the reality is that 80 percent of weight loss surgery patients regain some weight.

This is especially true for those who have not changed their eating habits or lifestyles. Again, I wish the OP the best of luck and continued successes with this lifelong journey.

114 pounds in 3 months?! Wow, that's incredible. That almost seems like too much; what did you start out at? Are your Dr and dietitian really okay with that much weight in that short amount of time?

I agree that three months out is way too soon to be celebrating that you "proved everyone wrong" as this thread seems to imply. I'm going to be a jerk and reiterate that pizza, pasta and bread, even a few bites, is not a good source of nutrients a month out from surgery. Sure it goes down easily, but then it puffs up and fills your stomach so you can't put any, oh I don't know, protein into your stomach.

The original thread had lots of good advice, advice I myself have taken, and it was all said with the best intentions to help you. That you would start this thread to throw that back in the faces of those who tried to help you become more successful is frankly beyond the pale to me.

    Good luck to you.

I am SO GRATEFUL for the input from those who have gone before me! There is a lot to be said about sharing one's own experience.
I'm also regularly in touch with my surgical team and nut.
This is a place for me to come to for honest, straight forward knowledge and experience. It's invaluable information as I travel the road to a permanent lifestyle change.
I don't come here for someone to co-sign my BS!

I agree. I'm 7 months post surgery, lost 140lbs since I started 9 months ago, and I still am not ready to "crow". 15lbs more to hit my goal, and even then I'll just be glad I made this decision.

I am definitely curious how much the OP weighed to start, and what he is doing to lose. I know what I'm doing isn't the "norm", but it's healthy and works for me. So like I said, curious what exactly he's doing.

I was 428lbs on Jan. 25th 1016. As I type this reply I am weighing in at 305lbs. Thats 123Lbs in 105 days. As for what Im doing to lose weight I take 2 fusion vitamins twice a day in the morning and early evening. I drink 2 premier protein shakes a day and I eat 2 meals. One at lunch which is very small and normally consists of 1 egg or 2 to 3 oz of tuna. Dinner is 3 oz of protein (meat or fish) 1/4 cup of vegetables. Im keeping my calories lower than 750 per day and I walk 3.25 miles 2 times per day. Water still sucks I only drink maybe 12oz of water per day but I do drink decaf green or white tea. Since the surgery I am off of most of my meds for diabetes I now take 2 glucovance a day and benzaerpyl 40mg a day for high blood pressure. Down from 7 pills a day for diabetes and 4 a day for high blood pressure. All blood work has came back within normal ranges. Yes it may be too soon to gloat or say I told you so but I am never hungry I have more energy than I have had in years and Im feeling great. Yes I still do eat pasta and some hard breads but no white bread or pasta whole wheat pasta and multi grain breads. Small amounts of these things to keep me sane. I still have a long way to go as I would like my goal weight between 240 and 260 lbs if I can get lower Ill take it but I can carry 240 very well due to my height and bone structure. PCP and my surgeon are elated in my progress. Dont think you cant eat what you like just use your head. if you know youre going to have pasta for dinner make it just that 1/4 to 1/2 cup. Pizza 1/2 of a slice. I make my meal last 20 to 30 minutes taking bite3s smaller than 1/2 inch and chewing until they are complete mush. The burping I described in my OP has subsided which they said it would It was just aggravating in the beginning. This is a new me and I am proud of what I accomplished and will continue for the rest of my life.

Willy, We are all proud of your success thus far! Keep this habit up and your goals will be attained. I know what it is liked to be criticized a lifetime for whatever I am eating, how much I weigh..on here we really are different. Somethings that we may choose to do--food wise can be dangerous, and most of us here try to be a light and a voice of reason. I read the original posts and found nothing but concern, graciousness and love by our members here...and lots of excellent advice. Good Luck to yoU!

    Heighest weight 253 pounds 3/2/2016
    Pre-op weight 244 pounds 3/6/2016
    1 week after surgery 238 pounds 3/13/16
    1 month post-op 227 pounds 4/6/16 lost 26 pounds
    2 month post-op 218 pounds 5/6/16 lost 9 pounds total of 35!
    3 month post-op 204 pounds 6/6/16 lost 14 pounds total of 49!
    4 month post-op 197 pounds 7/6/16 lost 8 pounds total of 56!

This is a new me and I am proud of what I accomplished and will continue for the rest of my life.
    *EDITED FOR HORRID MATH*

But I'm not taking away from your accomplishments. Great job. I'm curious how you can be at 750 calories eating twice a day and 2 protein shakes. I drink protein 3 times a day, and eat only once. My caloric intake is usually around 800 just doing that. How many grams of protein do you get per day?

I've been fortunate in that not only have I NOT lost my muscle mass from before surgery, but am actually GAINING muscle while losing fat. Doing cardio only is great for weight loss, but personally I want to look as good as possible during my transition.

    So far, so good.
    Reason: Basic math.
