    Default Hello, I'm new

    Hello,

My name is Jess and I had my surgery on March 31, 2016. I'm having a hard time getting enough protein into my diet as I can not handle a lot of smells or taste. I'm also having a hard time understanding how much food I can eat at one time. My doctor told me to eat every 2 hours but some days that feel like to much food and I feel sick, (Luckly I have only ben sick twice).

Does anyone have any suggestion on a good way to understand how much is to much food? I feel like sometimes I'm not eating enough. Right now I'm on soft foods until May 12th.

    I welcome any ideas.

Thank you for read my post and any help you can be.

    Jess

Try a quarter cup of cottage cheese. I was still on protein drinks to get in liquids and proteins.

All doctors are different. Mine told me to have six meals per day until the end of the first month. Then just 3 meals and two snacks. Usually I never eat more than half a cup per sitting, unless it's soup, sometimes I have more later.
I'm nauseous all the time and my surgeon said it's because of my stomach hormone's, it should get better after a few months. Drinking iced cold water does help, I also take "MediNatura, BHI, Nausea". But nausea can start with a smell, some food I don't like anymore...my stomach seems to have a mind of it's own...it's not always easy to manage....
    Good luck and take care.

When I get off of liquids I plan to try small quantities of soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. If it makes me have nausea I will back off and drink a protein shake. Best of luck.

in the beginning, i definately used protein drinks, that helped me get the protein in. You will begin to learn more and more about fullness and how your tummy feels as you get into eating more solid food. til then just try to drink any protein you might be lacking..and be gentle with that tummy

I am not sleeved yet, but I'm it will be any minute now (crossing fingers and toes). In the meantime, I am starting on a 1000 calorie diet tomorrow, and I am trying to keep my protein high at least 70%, and I have started to add a serving of protein powder to my premix Premier Protein vanilla shake (from Costco) which already has 30g protein and only 1g of sugar, and it has been keeping me full longer. Starting tomorrow I will cut down on some of the snacks I normally have, and see how 1000 cals feels like.

    Best wishes to you!

It takes a little while to get used to it ! Especially if you are used to big eating before. I put a tiny amount on my plate as I can always go back and have another bite later. Much better to eat less than too much and feel terrible. I also tend to graze on a small meal rather than eat 3 times a day. I personally keep away from carbs ( including hidden carbs ) and it works for me

    Thank you all for posting.

I might give the primer protein shakes another try. I didn't like then before but maybe now I will. I have tried a lot of shakes have found one I liked yet.
:-) I will keep telling my self tiny meals are ok. I use to eat small meals

    Hi Jess,
I went through the same thing, vomiting several times a day from smells and tastes.
Unflavored protein powder works for me.
As far as food, I did the best I could. As time went on I was able to get to 2 oz.

Try adding a little cinnamon to the vanilla protein drinks and a few ice cubes. I can't stand any of the protein drinks I've tried but my clinic encourages us to stop using protein drinks asap.
