Default Having problems drinking colonoscopy prep

    Hi All

I had a colonoscopy/gastroscopy last week. I've had a gastric sleeve in October 2014 and have lost heaps of weight. My problem is that I can't consume a lot of fluid quickly. After not clearing out my bowel enough, I now need to have another colonoscopy in a few weeks. I will have to drink that foul liquid again - my specialist has me drinking Picoprep X 2 (500 mls) and Glycoprep (2 litres). Has anyone else who's had the gastric sleeve had problems with colon prep? How did you get around it? I really need to have this prep work properly. There are no tablets available in Australia ATM. Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. No, I don't know if they're available here where I live. How do they work?

Thanks, I've already asked about the pills...I live in Australia and have been told that there are none available in this country. . It would have been so much easier.

I had a colonoscopy just 4 months after my VSG so drinking the required amount of prep solution was out of the question. I ended up doing clear liquids only (water and broth) for 24 hours prior to starting the prep. Then did one round of colon prep the night before the colonoscopy (I probably finished 1/3 of what I was supposed to). Drank as much water as I could that night. Then I did another round first thing the next morning (again, 1/3 dose) and drank as much water as possible all morning. Then a 3rd round of prep around noon that day and my colonoscopy was at 3 pm. So basically 48 hours of nothing but clear liquids and colon prep. Ugh! But at least I only had to do it once.

Hahahahaha very graphic. It doesn't clean the bowel out far enough. No, I'm sure they do have colonic irrigations here but I haven't had one nor have I heard of many of them being done...we just don't have the tablets here.

Thank you, that sounds a lot better. I think this is what I'll have to end up doing.
