    Default Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

I am having this procedure this coming Friday. From my understanding the post op diet mimics that of the sleeve surgery. I will also have a sleeve, but instead of cutting it is done with stitching. I know 3 former co-workers who have had this procedure. One is 1 1/2 year out the most recent 6 months. The results are fantastic, so I am very excited to have this done. Is there anyone else who is having this?

I've never heard of this, so the only difference is that instead of removing they're just 'closing off' part of your tummy? Does that mean in the future if you wanted, you could get the stitches removed?

That procedure is different from VSG sleeves in a number of ways -- but primarily that the fundus (the stretchy part of the stomach) isn't removed. So it's still sitting inside you, producing ghrelin -- the hunger hormone. So the benefit of not being nearly as hungry post-op is not available to you post-op. And IMHO, 20 months post-op, that's one helluva great benefit!

Therefore, I would SO not choose that procedure, compared to the standard VSG.

From my understanding it is supposed to be reversible but as one physician explained to me the stomach fuses as a result of the sutures together so it really is not reversible.

(I assume your post above was sarcastic ... right?)

Out of curiosity, why did you choose this procedure instead of the VSG surgery?

You assume correctly please reread what you wrote to me and tell me how you would feel being a member for all of 10 minutes.

Not that I think you're truly interested in why I chose to do what I am doing. I did so with a BMI of 36 I preferred not to go the surgery route. This was a personal decision not right for everyone but right for me.

Actually -- I was interested in why you chose the gastroplasty.

I was also interested to learn when it would be recommended over VSG or other forms of WLS.

For anyone else who might be interested, here's a Mayo Clinic writeup on endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty:

I am so looking forward to not having that pesky ghrelin. If it were up to me, I'd have my whole stomach removed and just pour liquid food in through a tube in my abdomen....my tummy and I don't really get along all that well! Lol

I have made my decision and am curious as to why you are posting links about something you have made very clear you would not choose. I have done my homework and made a well informed decision. I would very much appreciate it if you would keep your unsolicited advice Or whatever you would like to call it.

She's probably feeling pretty jacked up pre-op like most people do.

I was just trying to introduce her to some people online over at BP who have had or are planning to have gastroplasty. I doubt she'll meet anyone here who's having that procedure.

    It's all good.

Yea, I know. But you going above and beyond only to be met with such disrespect kinda pisses me off.

But it has been one of those weeks. I had a client raggin on me last Monday and I hung up on her. She promptly started texting and my partner simply let her know that her behavior was unacceptable and that we will forward her records to any other vet she wants since she obviously wasn't happy with our services. Haven't heard a word since. She's always been very passive aggressive and probably thought I'd go with the "client is always right" route. Nope, not this time. Now she's SOL cause no other vet will make house calls around her schedule. Gotta say it felt good.... But that probably puts me in the running for the Biotch Award
